Comic Con was EPIC. And it was also my birthday on day 1.

I’ve always wondered what my crown birthday would feel like - where I’d be, how I’d celebrate it, whether I’d even want to. Turns out, this is what it looked like: being in a space full of people who love the same things I do, and who put me onto new things to obsess over😝🫶🏾

I won’t lie, I was overwhelmed but in the best way.

Family flew in just to support me. Friends held me down at my stall. Strangers wished me happy birthday while dressed as some of my favourite characters. And nothing - I repeat, NOTHING - beats watching someone lose their shit over my art 🥹😭🙌🏾

April taught me a lot: to be open to receiving, to rest without guilt, and to ask for help when needed

Thank you to everyone who made Comic Con and my 30th unforgettable

Comic Con Cape Town owes me nothing🙏🏾

Oh and my money came😉💅🏾😂

Comic Con is fast approaching, 5 more days!! 😝💃🏾

Here’s a look at some of the goodies you’ll find at my stall(LUMIN AA117). So far my personal favourite’s of Finn and Jake eating together☺️ Jake’s munching on a koeksister and Finn’s eating ice block/supa/ice lollie/whatever you’d call it growing up 😅🤷🏾‍♀️ aaand I love my thick, pink lady covered in tatts and bandages🤕❤️‍🩹 I don’t know what to call her, so if you have any name suggestions, please let me know what name you think suits her - Oooh and I had fun with Chopper’s design🥹, you know what? I’m extremely biased so I’m gonna stop😅🤦🏾‍♀️

I’d like to thank @merchboxza for making my tote bags and stickers and a huuuge thanks to @kulture_krate for these amazing keychains🫶🏾✨

Just 5 more sleeps then the fun really begins🤭

If anyone asked me what one of my favourite albums of all time is, Now by @maxwell is on my top 5 list

This was one of the albums my dad would play whenever we’d drive to Upington for school holidays. I’d genuinely look forward to those drives because I knew this album would come on at some point, actually I’d usually be the one who’d put this CD in😅. Before I even understood what most of the lyrics meant, I fell in love with the way each song made me feel

There are songs for yearning, real yearning. “Silently” is still my favourite Maxwell yearner songs. There are songs that feel mischievous and cheeky, the kind that make me sway my hips even when I’m trying to sit still. And the lyrics on “W/As My Girl”… yoh. Listen, those hit a little too close to home. 22 year old Chaba had that song on repeat because I finally understood the kind of heartbreak he was singing about

Also, Maxwell is coming to Cape Town this year.

If anyone would like to buy me a ticket👀 your generosity would be greatly appreciated😂

No, but seriously… I have to see this man perform live at least once

I will actually cry. I will ugly cry😭

Anyway, hope you dig it🫶🏾✨

At the end of the day, the day will end. I feel like drawing something… and then something I’ve felt is drawn 👩🏾‍🎨💙🩵🩷💜💚

If you scroll, you’ll see the references that inspired this piece and my little art style exploration. It’s based on Girls by Anisha Shankar. I hadn’t originally planned to post it here, so please mind the cropping 🤷🏾‍♀️ taken in Cape Town by @chaba_ranks_

Not everything has to be finished to see the light of day. So here’s some old sketches and even a few corrupted psd files. Now they get to live here rent free😌

Last slide was fully art-directed by my baby sister, Lelethu(8). She told me exactly what to draw and how, and even gave it a title: Uncle Wendy. Easily the most fun collab I’ve had 🤣 by @chaba_ranks_

This is a study I've titled 'Midnight Snack', did this a while back and usually I'd want to change and fix things, but it's late, I've learnt what I needed from it. Gotta be less precious and move on quicker😤. I'm hoping you all have a dope ass weekend ahead🫶🏾 by @chaba_ranks_
