Somehow it’s been 5 years since Heather passed from this world into the next. We still miss her every day and long to see her as much today as we did on day 1.

When my girls were growing up, I would often ask them what they learned from a set of circumstances or a difficult situation they had to navigate. It was important to both me and their Dad that they not just float through life but live and learn and then take what they learned and apply it moving forward. It shapes character, it helps you grow and mature and it builds your faith and enables you to help and encourage others. The same is true for us as adults.

Here’s a few things I’ve learned navigating tragedy, grief and loss in hopes that it may help someone else.
*God is good even when life/circumstances and situations are not. God is faithful- He never leaves you alone. He will meet you in the deepest, darkest, ugliest part of your grief and when you are ready, He helps you stand and put one foot in front of the other.

He is full of grace and love when you bring your questions to Him. He has used this situation to shape my character and grown my compassion for others and their grief and sorrow.
I’ve learned the importance of loving freely today, not waiting to say things, talk about something or spend time today, because tomorrow may not come.

Through Heather’s passing, He has strengthened my heart, mind and soul when I felt weak. He has shown me purpose and joy in the midst of heartache. He is teaching me how to carry a heavy weight.

He doesn’t take the pain away, but He heals an inevitable wound that death leaves on us. In the end, He’s defeated death, and that is a victory that I can claim until I see Heather again❤️ #becausehelivesicanfacetomorrow by @chadbecky

That’s a wrap on the 2025 Heather Blackwelder legacy scholarships. Congratulations to Maya Pankhania and Evan Ashley from DHS, Denton Long from FCHS, Grayson Moody from LHS and Faith Lortie from WFHS.

If you’ve known me for any length of time you’ve probably heard me say “hard is not bad, hard is just hard.” Many people ask me “Isn’t it hard to do this every year?” The answer is yes, it IS hard, but it is not bad. It is in fact good.

It is good to honor young people for their integrity and character. It is in fact good to award them for looking outside of their own lives to honor others and give of themselves just like Heather did. So in these cases, yes it is definitely hard, but it is also very, very good. So let’s not shrink back from the “hard” stuff. Let’s press into it and look for the good. We can all do hard things. Matt:19:26 “With God all things are possible”.
