Back at it again & enjoying a lovely Everest base camp trek in Nepal. For many years I have been bypassing the lower kumbu valley via helicopter and I had forgotten how beautiful this forested section is!! Absolutely stunning views, quiet trails and the local budhist culture is inviting and comforting as always ♥️

Day 1 completed and tomorrow we have a short but steep trek into Namche Bazaar where we will spend two nights acclimatizing

On July 30th an avalanche caught and killed 10 climbers on Broad peak (8051m) in Pakistan. Many big names, strong climbers & guides including Pur Bahadur Gurung known as Yukta were lost that day. I had the great honor of working alongside Yukta on both Everest and Ama Dablam in 2025 and my heart goes out to his family & friends. Yukta wasn't Sherpa but worked his way up from porter to become one of the few Nepali IFMGA Guides. I believe there are only around 100 Nepalis that have met this rigorous training & certification and Yukta definitely shined! His strength and smile will be missed

The #goldmountainfire has raged thru our valley and while the unknown was scary, containment has been slowly moving forward. We've had an unfortunate loss of life with a heli pilot during water suppression.. and that will always be hard to accept. 😔♥️ Thankfully, additional loss of life and structure has not occurred.. which is amazing upon seeing the start zone and burn line of the initial fire. There is much to say about this fire.. and many can speak to it's travel and intensity.

This post is about where we are now and how life is moving forward. Nature is wild and I've learned that I truly didn't know shit about wildland fires or the prevention or mitigation. I now know a little bit more. But outside the fear and the reality of this destruction, #ouraycounty is moving forward and welcoming business again! People are living, climbing and exploring as we always have.
The initial fire start line is mere feet from my work zone and it's crazy to see what has burned and what didn't and I'm Soo thankful that the winds, the people and everyone/ everything in-between helped keep this burn from becoming more.

I have a lot of people reaching out to me concerning the Gold Mountain Fire which is very appreciated! Currently, the fire is over 18,000 acres with zero containment.
The fire started small just North of Ouray adjacent to the Gold Mountain Via Ferrata and has been steadily blowing NE away from the populace. Currently there are NO loss of structures or lives which we are all incredibly thankful for!
Isolated evacuations have occurred with an amazing response and the professionals are working hard to contain the fire.

Currently, we are all watching the process, keeping positive thoughts while preparing for the worst case scenario in case the winds change. Only time will tell !! taken in Ridgway, Colorado by @chadpeele

@alpenglowexpeditions Ecuador climbing school just made our first attempt of the volcano #cayambe Things started off with incredibly warm weather but quickly deteriorated as we got higher. Unfortunately a distant lightning storm got a little too close and our teams could feel the static charge building which prompted a quick decent to safer terrain.
No summit today but we have plenty of learning coming up with additional summit pushes on multiple peaks! Staying stoked for the adventure!!! taken in Cayambe, Ecuador by @chadpeele

Unbelievable!!!.. the experience and views from the summit of 19,350 ft Cotopaxi were absolutely unreal this morning!! And @alpenglowexpeditions rapid ascent team had a 100% summit success with all 10 members on top.. Absolutely amazing 😎
My last two trips to Ecuador I've had variable success mostly due to weather. This current trip has had the usual rain and precip up high which didn't have my hopes up but oh my Zeus! Did we have the perfect conditions for a clear and warm sunny day! Watching the sunset from the summit followed by the mountains shadow on the distant horizon was worth every failed attempt!!

Tonight we rest in cozy hacienda comfort and tomorrow we travel to begin our Rapid Ascent of 20,565 ft Chimborazo. Yeesss !!! 💥💥 taken in Cotopaxi National Park by @chadpeele

Yesterday we arrived at Cotopaxi national Park and had a great day hike in pretty poor weather. Even though the snow was blowing sideways everyone did fantastic and we were able to push up to above 16,000 ft. Not too shabby with the summit at 19,350 !!
This morning we woke up to a bluebird morning and Crystal clear views of the entire mountain!!!
Today the @alpenglowexpeditions rapid ascent team will review some skills and get plenty of rest for our summit push tonight. Wish us luck !!! 💥💥💥💥 taken in Tambopaxi, Parque Nacional Cotopaxi by @chadpeele

Man o man, what a trip!! @alpenglowexpeditions hit the summit of Aconcagua and the views and celebration were awesome! Big shout out to all of our members for being such strong and memorable teammates and @aconcaguavision for providing such excellent support & staff!!
As always, the " stone sentinel " was cold, windy and proved itself to be difficult although I was so happy to see everyone push hard & dig deep.
After the summit the entire team descended all the way down to plaza de Mulas and although it was an ass kicker the comforts of BC including steak, wine and comfy beds were totally worth it!!
The next morning we took a helicopter out and enjoyed another great night and dinner in Mendoza.. so wild how quickly a trip can end and a completely new life is entered!! Absolutely amazing!! #rapidascent

Aconcagua !! It's such a beautiful & unique mountain! Some poo poo it and as a younger guide I did as well. Aconslogwa.. nothing but dirt and scree! 😅
But honestly, I was just a stuck up kid who only valued technical climbs at that stage in my life. In my maturity (I can't believe I used that word! 🤣) I truly appreciate the splendor and the special beauty this peak has. Out of all the countries I visit, all the mountains I climb, Aconcagua is as unique as they come. Beautiful rocky colors, snow capped horizons, glaciated routes and the highest peak in all of the Americas!!
Mendoza is absolutely stunning, the locals are incredible, my crew is amazing and the food... Like no other!!!
Quesadillas & eggs for breakfast, homemade pizza for lunch and a wild assortment of amazing dinners including steak, tacos and quinoa salads. Definitely a mountain where one doesn't loose weight!

Another rest day at 18,100 feet and the @alpenglowexpeditions rapid ascent team will move up to high camp and give the summit a go! 💥💥 taken in Aconcagua by @chadpeele
