It was an absolute honor to bring my newly finished figure sculpture out to share at the Playa Art Park at Burning Man last week!

The crown he's wearing is removable. I was wearing it (and not much else) around Black Rock City for much of the week. The antlers on the left side worked out well with this year's Anamalia theme 🦌My playa name is now Ferrous Hare 🧲🐇 I'm already preparing to get back in the dust next year... I'll definitely be packing my mud boots.

I was working day and night in the weeks before Burning Man to get this guy finished and ready for exhibition. I've probably spent more time on this piece than any other artwork I've created. It took almost 2 years working on and off to call this one done. I'll be cleaning the playa out of it and giving him a fresh coat of finish before submitting it for public exhibition soon. Contact me if you are interested in showing this sculpture.

I'm very stoked to start working on my next figure sculpture. I told myself I couldn't start on it until this one was done.

🌐🌅 My giant globe of bicycle wheels is back in service at @neverlandbarnyard after a full redesign and a fresh coat of paint.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the heavy lifting yesterday!

Time to start designing an even larger one!

Out here at the @bikelibrarian demonstrating the use of the Manfroto Magic Arm tool for holding notched tubes in place for fabricating this welded bicycle tube archsay sculpture. I'm so glad I have this tool! taken in Iowa City Bike Library by @chainbreakerwelding

Update: I took it back to the shop and they replaced it for a fresh one. So genuinely, thanks @airgas. The folks at the local shop here in Cedar Rapids have always been super kind and friendly and are fans of my art. Also, they're better and more transparent with their pricing than the other local welding supply shop. I'm glad I happened to have left it out in the rain so the valve got wet and I could hear it bubbling. I will be checking all of my tanks from here on.

The price of welding gas has more than doubled since I started this business just a few years ago. A few days ago I exchanged my 300CF C25 tank at @airgas for almost $180 and I come to find my new tank been venting out through the valve threads. I guess I should have been checking for leaks at the retailer.

I'm going to go back and see if I can get a replacement tank and if I do I will let y'all know. taken in Chainbreaker Welding by @chainbreakerwelding

Hanging out at the Iowa City Bike Library @bikelibrarian working on reinforcing this bicycle frame archway sculpture. It's been a long week of adding a bunch of additional structural elements to rigidify the sculpture but I'm happy with how it's coming along. A little look at the curious detail of bicycle registration stickers on the @bikelibrarian sculpture. I'm glad that I've never had to register a bicycle in my life. It seems to be a 70s and 80s thing. Needing to register a bicycle seems to me to run counter to the aspect of freedom that bicycles grant us.

Welding away on the @bikelibrarian sculpture

It's really coming together now! I thought I was almost finished with it, but then today I decided that I'm going to add a bunch of extra bracing to really rigidify the structure and make sure that it can withstand even super gnarly windstorms. taken in Iowa City Bike Library by @chainbreakerwelding
