Trying to listen to myself this year. A review of the Ten Days of Repentance

Aseret Yemei Teshuva 🕊️

I chose to return to myself
and this week everything’s been amplified

I trusted Hashem when he nudged and He let me know
I want you to be yourself
and trust I will take care of the rest

⁣
I sang in my car
I made arts and crafts on a siddur
I cooked a humble meal, and my family all enjoyed it
I worked out, trying my best to listen to my body
I ate what my heart and body wanted
I called the people I wanted to talk to

I spoke with more clarity, and communicated me wants and needs.
I shopped and bought only what my soul told me to
I forgave, let go, and blessed the challenging moments and people that were weighing me down in my heart.
I closed my eyes, held my heart, and told myself I loved myself

⁣
These may be mundane things
but if you think about it —

I truly and wholeheartedly tried to listen to MYSELF.
My true self, Gd made me to be, at this moment in time.

You have the ability to be in 100% control
of your actions, 100% of the time.

⁣
So God —
please love me as I am,
and I will try to love myself as much as You love me,
and honor my body and soul this year

Inscribe me in the book of life, with compassion and love
Fill in all the blanks with blessings
Guide me in Your direction

I will try to let go of my comforts, my shortcomings
I will be honest with what I know is possible
and I will leave a lot of leg room for the possibilities I cannot see

⁣
So with that — I cut the chord of this past year
I send it off with love, gratitude, and graciousness 🤍
And Stand in front of Hashem, The King.

✨ There’s so much content out there right now. So many voices, so many reminders. And in all of the overwhelm we can boil it down to …𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗺.

📖 So this year, instead of looking for the next thing to listen to, I went back to what I already wrote. Last Rosh Hashana, I sat down and put into words who I wanted to become. Reading it back now gave me such a clear picture of everything I have to be grateful for this past year, and of what still needs fine tuning.

🤍 I’m not sharing this to seem more aligned, or deep, or like I have it all figured out. I don’t. But I can always return to myself
that’s the beauty of it. A new year to grow into, a new chance to become a little closer to who Hashem created me to be.

on this last shabbat before rosh hashana, i’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to share all of this.

the more i share, the more i realize i don’t really have an end goal and i think that’s kind of the point.

to keep showing up, sharing what feels true and a bit cringe sometimes, and seeing where it goes.

i have a gut feeling that the more i share from my big juicy heart, the more it might inspire other people to share from theirs too.

maybe that’s enough.

looking forward to a new year and everything beyond it 🤍.
