Would you fly 1,200 miles for one dinner and not knowing if anyone would come?

I did. 🥟

Eight people from different worlds took a chance on one table in Atlanta. There were no presentations and no pressure to perform, just dim sum passed around, honest conversations, We explored one question: What is AI changing, and what do humans still own?

As @themarketingmuse360 shared, “The culture, the food and the heart of everyone came together.”

This is what I hoped DIMSUMX could feel like: a table where people feel safe enough to bring their whole selves.

Thank you everyone who showed up and trusted the table, Atlanta. Big shout out to my cohost @bethtjarrett for believing in me and DIMSUMX! Couldn’t had done without you!

Someone recently turned down my dim sum dinner invitation, partly because he believed dim sum belongs at brunch, not dinner.

As someone who grew up going for night tea in China, and now hosts nighttime DIMSUMX gatherings across America, I had to correct this misconception.

Dim sum is the food. Yum cha is the experience.

And Cantonese yum cha isn’t limited to the morning. We have morning tea, afternoon tea, and night tea.

Chinese families say, “Let’s go yum cha.”

Americans say, “Let’s get dim sum.”

Same table. Same tradition. Different name.

So why did “yum cha” fade into the background while “dim sum” became the word America remembered?

The answer is hidden in two tea rooms, one dictionary, and more than a century of immigration. 🥟🫖
