Un QMT mémorableAprès le QMT 50 en 2024 et un QMT 80 qui m'avait laissé sur ma faim l'an dernier, je me présentais au départ du QMT 135 à Baie-Saint-Paul avec une ambition bien précise : me réconcilier avec les sentiers et livrer une performance dont je pourrais être fier, au plus profond de moi-même.Les premières foulées d'une aventure aussi longue ont quelque chose de particulier. J'accepte alors que ce fragment de ma vie ne se résumera plus qu'à quelques éléments essentiels : gérer l'effort, écouter mon corps et tenter, tant bien que mal, de traverser les inévitables creux qui m'attendent. J'entre dans ce que j'appelle affectueusement mon « bloc de fer ». Une course de nuit pour commencer. Le soleil disparaît derrière les montagnes alors que nous nous engageons dans le sentier Gabrielle-Roy Ouest en direction du sommet du Massif. Il n'y a rien à gagner à partir trop vite. Peu à peu, je trouve mon rythme, sans me préoccuper des coureurs autour de moi. Mon attention est surtout tournée vers ma cheville droite, déjà passablement amochée en ce début de saison. Traverser la nuit est ce que je préfère. Il y a quelque chose de spécial à se retrouver seul dans le noir de la nuit. On finit inévitablement par se rencontrer soi-même. Les ravitos du Sentier des Caps apparaissent comme des oasis lumineuses et les énergiques bénévoles comme des anges bienfaisants, leur énergie contrastant avec la quiétude de la forêt. Tranquillement, je progresse dans la nuit en faisant attention à ne pas me virer la cheville. Ça craque à quelques reprises, mais rien d’alarmant. Les heures défilent alors que les hauts et les bas se succèdent. Le lever du soleil sur le Cap Brûlé est magistral. Pendant quelques instants, il fait presque oublier la difficulté de l'effort. Mais l'aube ne vient pas seule avec ses nouveautés : je rejoins alors le meneur de la course, Kamil Leśniak, l’athlète polonais de l'équipe HOKA-Garmin au palmarès impressionnant. Peak summer doesn’t wash the world out, it burns it in. The sun climbs, the colour gets louder, and the whole landscape goes high contrast. Hot orange against hard shadow. Light so strong it draws a black line down one side of everything. Sunbleach is our new colourway for SS26. Bold, blazing oranges cut hard against deep shadow, pulled straight from the moment the sun is at its most brutal and most beautiful. Loud colour for the loudest heat of the year. GRID TESTING UPDATE Over the last few weeks we’ve had GRID out in the high mountains. Long days above the treeline, big vertical, the kind of runs that start in the dark and finish with your legs cooked and your bottles empty. The mountains don’t care what the spec sheet says. GRID is our Gear Research and Innovation Division. A network of athletes who run in the product before anyone else can buy it, in the exact conditions it’s built for. They find the seam that rubs at hour four. The pocket that moves when overfilled. The fabric that felt perfect in the studio and not quite right at 3,000m. Then they tell us, and we change it. Nothing goes into the range until it’s survived this. Altitude, heat, cold that comes in fast when the sun drops behind a ridge, hours on your feet with nowhere to bail. If a piece works here, it works anywhere you’ll take it. The timing isn’t an accident. The big summer races are close now, and this is the window where the product gets pushed hardest and refined fastest. Everything we learn up there ends up in what you wear down here. There’s a particular hour in summer that most runners never plan for but always remember. The heat has finally let go. The sun is gone but the sky hasn’t given up its light, it just changes hands. Blue deepens into blue. The moon comes up before the day is properly over, and for a while you’re running through a colour that has no name. That’s the feeling we wanted to hold with Cyanotype. The long tail of the day. The evening that refuses to end. Trails that go quiet and cool, air you can finally breathe, legs that suddenly feel like they could carry you anywhere. Deep, inky blues pulled straight from that late hour when the light turns and the moon takes over. Darkest at the edges, alive in the middle. The colour of a summer evening you don’t want to end. GRID | VICTOR LAROCQUEAhead of Quebec Mega Trail this weekend, we caught up with GRID athlete @v_lar to get some thoughts on his recent sharpener at Clinique du Coureur.“This was my first trail race of the season since I’ve switched from road to trail at the beginning of May. The goal was to test my current form level towards the upcoming races. I’ve had really good energy throughout the race but rolled my ankle pretty badly at 23rd km of the 50 km of La Clinique du Coureur which is a quite technical course. I’m glad I managed to keep the focus, adapt and still finish on the podium 🥉Next I will be continuing my ramp up towards UTMB at Quebec Mega Trail 135 km this weekend and then focus on UTMB Mont Blanc - I’ll be flying to Chamonix at the beginning of August to finalize my preparation towards the famous “course de quartier” which I am really hyped about!”Victor raced in the AROW Ultra Short V3 Black and White and the AROW Ultra Tee in Red.📸 @juliettelarock by @chancerunning
