A powerful calving at Dawes Glacier in Endicott Arm. We spent the morning traveling through the protected Tracy Arm-Ford’s Terror Wilderness before taking Zodiacs through the floating ice to view the glacier from a respectful distance.

While calving is a natural part of a tidewater glacier’s life, the broader loss and retreat of glaciers throughout Southeast Alaska is a much bigger concern.

A reminder of how important it is to protect these ecosystems and the wildlife that depends on them.

4 hours of intense bushwhacking 💀through the Tongass National Forest 🌿 where everything is wet, mossy, and oversized.

No trails, just us pushing our way through whatever was in front of us. Only 5 of us (out of 100) along with our incredible naturalist. Sighting of bears with cubs nearby, so we yelled, “Hey bear” ever so often to make our presence known.

Toward the end, we sat in complete silence and just listened to the sounds of the forest. I literally felt like it reset my brain/mind in some way.

Easily one of my favorite parts of this expedition. These pics don’t do it justice.

Also in my homeless look era and don’t care 😌
