I will not apologize for quoting movies that came out in 2006. If you don’t like Nacho Libre you can go away. read some books.

If you need drums on your record, I am booking remote sessions.

We will have a newborn soon and it will be awesome and I will show her Nacho Libre immediately. by @chando.dix

A little studio tour for your Cheusday. This space would not exist without the many wonderful people in my life.

Visible aesthetic vibes curated by the inimitable hottest @shea.dix . Power grade by the great @timw.jpg thank the Lord. Treatment and drumbrella by the greatest @geis.house . Phase lessons by @samuel.sterk and @sawyerknox . Omega course by @thebrianmcmaster . 60’s Ludwig information and Instagram sizing advice from @danieljgriffo which will be implemented next week. Coffee by @fenixcoffeeroasters / @prince_eddie . Feedback and encouragement by @matt_frank_drums . Saturation station curated by yours truly.

The state of the music industry is very strange, but I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to make music with friends. Feels like everyone is sick of creating for someone else and are making what they want to which is very cool. It is technologically easier than it ever has been to make a good sounding record, and that too is a gift.

But it is still just as hard or easy to write a real song informed by real life and that is also a gift which can only be received by living and sometimes suffering in your meat suit.

Back to business until next week. “Ciao for now” by @chando.dix

This is my response to the heatwave. I am tired of it. I am ready to be cold. I want to surf wearing a hood in 60F water with howling offshore winds and want to take all day long to warm up again and complain that I miss summertime.

Also, this subkick thing has been super inspiring. Beating it up so much to sound normal inevitably sounds super unique and different.

For all of it:
$2 subkick —> Yamaha console rolling off low end and adding top —>API channel strip doing more of the same and compressing

Guitar—> @uaudio Showtime Tube Amp adding top and room

Drums—> scorch by @redlineaudio_official doing HEAVY work. Using 17 mics but really leaning on the subkick close room mic mostly. Kinda insane. Really happy with this drum sound and will keep it in the Rolodex for the future.

Lapsteel—> no subkick on this but it’s pretty cool I think by @chando.dix

I think this is the lap steel equivalent to what every kid who gets their first trombone does. And yes, I cleaned the paint brush before using it off label by @chando.dix

People say 70’s like it’s one thing but come on…
3 mixes from this 1 pass spanning 3 hallmark albums.

Mix 1: 1971
Early Al Green vibe. Al Jackson Jr. is the 🐐

3 mics, dynamic mono overhead->altec pre, snare top -> API, kick out -> API

Mix 2:1977
Bill Withers Menagerie vibe. @jamesgadsonmusic is also the 🐐 Close mics only. Tom’s and hat mics through the Yamaha console. No overheads.

Mix 3: Also 1977 but different.
Fleetwood Mac Rumors vibe. More hifi with overheads and rooms. Definitely one of my favorite albums ever.

Loved challenging myself to get 3 different sounds from one pass. Loads of options in mixing and muting after tracking. by @chando.dix

This sounds like a New York strip dry brined in Hawaiian sea salt for 24 hours that is seared in a cast iron skillet after rendering the fat cap for one minute and then flipped every minute for 4-8 minutes, pulled at 316.483 degrees Kelvin then allowed to rest for 6-11 minutes sliced at about 12.7 mm with a perfect pink center and no grey band served with a russet potato that was baked at 375 and broccoli steamed until dark green that is not limp but not raw. by @chando.dix

$2 DIY subkick through my 70’s Yamaha console as the only mic on every source.

Rolled off a lot of low end added a lot of high end. And kept doing that till it sounded 👍

Thanks for fixing this guitar @james_doll

God knows the world doesn’t need more internet videos of people doing things or playing things, but here is my weekly reminder that I exist and that I am available for hire. by @chando.dix
