Matariki marks the Māori New Year, signalled by the rising of the Matariki star cluster (known across the world as the Pleiades) in the midwinter sky. For generations, this special time has been one of remembrance, celebration, and renewal.As the stars return, we honour those who have passed, give thanks for the present, gather with whānau (family) and friends, and look forward with hope to the year ahead.
