Comeback Files Ep 04 - Shoulder Subluxation, Explained

“It went back in, so it’s fine.”

That’s the mistake.

A subluxation is the ball of the shoulder sliding partway off the socket, then sliding back in on its own.

On the way out it can stretch the tissue holding it in place, which is why it still feels loose and untrustworthy afterwards, even once it’s “back in.”

This is my rehab, not a prescription — get your own shoulder properly assessed.

Here’s the part that decided my own rehab: in young athletes, these come back at high rates if you do nothing about it.

The muscles around the joint have to pick up the slack the ligaments dropped — that’s the one part you can actually train back stronger than before.

Comment SHOULDER and I’ll send you the exercises I used to build mine back.

Next up: the phase nobody posts about — where comebacks are actually won.

Comeback Files Ep 03 - Training Around Two Injuries

Two injuries, two completely different rebuilds, running at the same time.

Ankle: load it early, build up through single-leg work, into pogos and hops.

Shoulder: open the range up first, then load it.

Comment PLAN and I’ll send you the full week-by-week breakdown for both.

This is my rehab, not a prescription — get your own injury properly assessed before deciding what to train around.

Rest completely and you protect the injury but lose everything else.

Coming up - Ep 4: what a shoulder subluxation actually does.

Comeback Files Ep 02 - The First 48 Hours

I’ve told hundreds of athletes what to do in this moment. This time, I was on the ground.

A sharp jolt through the ankle — not much force, mild pain.

I ran it off on adrenaline and taped it up on the bench for support.

The shoulder: full range, not smooth, but strong enough that it didn’t feel unstable.

That was enough to get back out there.

This is my rehab, not a prescription — get your own injury properly assessed before deciding whether to keep playing.

We won a tight one and secured the semifinal.

Day 1 looked like a sling I couldn’t sleep in, a limp on the ankle, and exercises I started anyway.

By day 2, I’d written the plan backwards — from the semifinal, 35 days out.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you the first-48-hours breakdown.

Coming up - Ep 3: training around two injuries.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw this.

Old mate here stood on the bench for a sideline out of bounds play.

I asked the ref and he told me to go check the rules 🫪🫪

Welcome to Singapore basketball, everyone!

IG refs — what do we think here?

Comeback Files Ep 01 - The Night It Happened

First quarter: I drive to the rim, lose the ball, regather, and land awkwardly on someone’s ankle.

I tape it up on the sideline and am back out by the second quarter.

Less than a minute later, on defense, I slap down at the ball as it’s ripped away — and my shoulder pops out, then back in, on its own.

I checked myself on the sideline.

Range was there but not smooth.

Strength was there but uncomfortable.

One win from the top four, so I went back in.

This is my rehab, not a prescription — get your own injury assessed before deciding whether to play on.

We won, 51–48. My stat line that night: 4 points, 4 turnovers, +15. Not my best game on paper — I still don’t know if going back in was the right call, but I’m glad the shoulder held.

Ep 02, Wednesday - The First 48 hours.

This is the world’s first AI-powered foam roller by @rheofit_official , and it’s genuinely earned a spot in my routine.

Four modes through the app, but manual’s become my go-to — I already know exactly what I like to work on, so I dial in the area, intensity, and time myself. Three covers, three speeds, zero guesswork.

It’s replaced my foam roller completely. Pre-training, post-training, or just on the days I’m tight.

My honest take, product deal or not: it doesn’t speed up recovery - what it does is help me feel good enough to move better, train better, and perform.

It’s not doing the work for me. It’s just making it easier to show up for the work that does.

Use my code CHAO for 15 USD OFF off at rheofit.com.

2 injuries. 1 game. This time I was the patient.

On 20 April I subluxed my shoulder and rolled my ankle in the same game.

My next game was 35 days out — the first playoff game, the one that decides who even makes the grand final.

As a physio, I’ve guided hundreds of these comebacks.

This time I was the patient.

Over the next few months I’m releasing the whole thing: the first 48 hours, the taping, the return-to-play tests (pass AND fail), the psychological barriers and the playoff run.

Everything I used on myself is what the evidence and years of clinical work support — no shortcuts, no guru protocols.

Ep 1 coming soon. Follow the Comeback 🏀

Preparing for my Netflix documentary about the time I subluxed my shoulder and rolled my ankle in the same game.

Except this one’s real.

I filmed the whole thing — the tests, the setbacks, the parts that didn’t go to plan.

Stay tuned for the Comeback Files dropping next week!

Race day looks a little different when you’re the physio.

My morning started with a quick gym session, breakfast, and sauna before starting work. From there, it was athlete treatments at the hotel, followed by activations and final checks on the warm-up track before everyone stepped into the stadium to compete.

By the time the races begin, most of the work has already been done. The goal isn’t to “fix” athletes on race day—it’s to help them feel as prepared and confident as possible when they step onto the track.

Grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team behind the scenes at the Asian National Relays in Shaoxing 🇨🇳🏃‍♂️

Back in an elite sporting environment for the first time in two years.

Last weekend I had the privilege of travelling to Shaoxing, China with Singapore Athletics as the physiotherapist for the Men’s 4×100m and 4×400m relay teams at the 2nd Asian Relay Athletics Championships 2026.

It was my first time back in an elite sporting environment since working in professional basketball two years ago, and it reminded me how much I’d missed it.

The travel. The atmosphere. The pressure. The tiny details that can make the difference when races are decided by hundredths of a second.

One thing that stood out was that success at this level isn’t just about talented athletes. It’s built on great coaching, strong performance systems, and an entire team working behind the scenes to help athletes perform at their best.

I’m grateful to have played a small role in supporting this group and to have worked alongside Coaches Hamkah and Remy, Team Manager Sha, and a committed group of athletes proudly representing Singapore.

Looking forward to continuing to learn, contribute, and hopefully be part of what’s next. taken in 上虞 by @chaorehab
