reminder that #defundthepolice doesn’t mean no police, it just means abolish what the system is now so that the community receives more access to things that prevent crime rather than investing in the police which don’t even prevent crime. they show up to crimes, they don’t prevent them.

Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, and Jonathan Mattingly still walk free after they entered Breonna Taylor’s home and murdered her while she slept, claiming they made a mistake and thought she was the suspect even though the suspect they were “looking for” was already in custody. but even if they weren’t, the answer to finding that person is NOT entering the home without announcing you’re the police, without a warrant, and with no identification to kill someone while they sleep.

the origins of police come from slavery. they were originally created to catch slaves that were running away from their plantations. the entire police system is built on racism. if you’re not able to see that, check your privilege.

silence is compliance and violence. Black people are being killed and exploited in slave labor by a system designed to hurt them. if you don’t see the system that way and have only stuck with what you learned in school, please do some research on black history in america.
don’t know where to start? netflix and hulu have collections of documentaries, movies, and shows depicting how black people are truly treated in america. my favorite so far was 13th, which describes how the system is designed to hurt Black people and how it allows modern day slavery. some are “normal” shows with mainly black characters or a black protagonist. i highly encourage anyone that doesn’t like reading to start there.
for those who want more info, i’ll be attaching a link in my bio to a twitter thread that has petitions to sign, organizations to donate to, info to read, contacts, and more. please check it out if you have yet to sign any petitions or read up on anything about current events!
‼️ IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO NOT BE RACIST. YOU MUST BE ACTIVELY ANTI-RACIST ‼️

long time no post. i have a lot of thoughts about a lot of things right now.
the state of the world rn points to us being in another 🌎 wąř and we have been for a while. since about 2023. despite millions protesting the current administration, the E.O.s being passed are putting us closer and closer to an *official* dictatorship. it’s not normal to have authors on how to spot fascism flee your country. it’s not normal to send people to a c0nc3ntration camp with no due process. losing rights to vote isn’t normal.
when you only care about your own rights, that’s exactly when you lose them.
on a toooootally unrelated note 👀 i highly recommend the book in the slides

life lately ✨
.
since october last year i’ve been taking in so much information on not just palestine, but multiple g3nocides across the world. everything is interwoven and connected somehow, and it’s terrifying to see the world in the state it’s in.
as the 4th of july comes up, keep your eyes towards Gaza and the West Bank as holidays and other major events in the US and other countries have been used as ways to distract from massacres.
a couple of important points to keep in mind with everything:
• October 7 was sad and tragic, but Israel admit they not only knew about the attack in advance, but that they were the cause for most of the deaths that day
• Israel has something called the Hannibal Directive and has denied all ceasefire deals thus far
• Hamas has taken probably a few hundred hostages (from what I can find) while Israel has taken roughly 9,000 or more Palestinians hostage
• There have been attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank (more than 500 have died since October) where Hamas isn’t even located and from my understanding has been the “main” cause of the “war”; wanting to eliminate Hamas
• Over 40,000 people have died in Gaza since October 7, and that number is assumed to be lower than the actual number as the centers for tracking those kinds of numbers have been destroyed by israel
• october 7th’s not the date, it’s 1948 - the nakba

my heart goes out to Palestine and the other countries facing g3nocide right now. The DR of Congo, Sudan, Ukraine, and sadly more 🩵 by @chaotic_aries99
