I have so many new friends here that I wanted to introduce myself (again)! And I also wanted to take a moment just to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for restoring my faith in the kindness of strangers. I see a lot of negativity in my line of work and it’s easy to become jaded but coming to bookstagram has shown me that there are so many truly beautiful, kind, generous, and amazing souls out there 🫶 Ok that’s enough sap from me.

Hi! I’m Mackenzie! Your favorite millennial mom who is completely obsessed with all things books. I’m not like a *regular* mom, I’m a *cool* mom.. 😂 (reference anyone?) Here’s some fun facts:

1. My favorite book is The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by V.E Schwab.
2. My favorite genres are romantasy and thriller.
3. I am a nurse who works in urogynecology and yes I can chat all things hoo-ha. Wipe that shocked look off your face!
4. I named my son after a character in the TV show Dexter.
5. I have 2 cats - 1 is named Phil(adelphia cream cheese) and 1 is named Emme(ntal). My kitty who passed away was named Cheddar. Yes I intend to name every pet going forward after some type of cheese.
6. I am probably one of the biggest Taylor Swift fans you’ll meet. No I couldn’t get tickets to the eras tour. Yes I was completely crushed.
7. I was a theatre kid in high school as well as a competitive dancer. I loved the stage. Now I am mortified to even see myself on camera 🙈
8. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and married for 6. Our baby boy is 11 months old and yes I want to sob that he is turning 1 so soon.
9. I’m a proud Canadian but have always dreamed of living abroad somewhere. I do think I would miss my family and friends too much though.
10. Bookstagram has helped my mental health immensely. As a recently diagnosed ADHDer and someone with depression and anxiety it has been amazing to find this community.

25 books down in 2025 and it’s been a ride 📚✨

This year has delivered some solid 4-star reads and a handful of 5-star favorites… but not everything hit the mark 😬

✨Onyx Storm? Yeah… no. Completely missed the mark. I’m still in mourning.
✨Intermezzo by Sally Rooney was giving... snoozefest. I wanted to love it, but instead I was fighting for my life to finish it.
✨When The Moon Hatched had me absolutely hooked—I need book two yesterday.
✨And Sunrise on the Reaping?? So nostalgic, so good, and such a glow-up from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It felt so good to be back in Panem.

Thank you to @sourcebooks for the gifted copy of Wild Love by Elsie Silver!!! I am so excited to dive into this series and love supporting Canadian authors (especially on Canada Day!)

This book marks my official first gifted book from a publisher and I am so honored and excited. I love that the series is complete already so I can binge read cause you know once a book has its hook in me I CANNOT put it down.

Reading Frankenstein after watching the Netflix movie! It was such a good movie I decided I wanted to go to the original source and try my hand at reading a classic for the first time. Better late than never! ✨ Finally sharing my thoughts on Once and Again.

If you need a break from the magic and dragons of Romantasy, this is a beautiful, grounded choice. It’s a bit of a slow burn to start, but so worth the payoff.

📌 Note for readers: Involves themes of infertility and fertility treatments.

It didn’t quite top In Five Years for me, but it’s a solid addition to your TBR pile! 📚

In my “Cozy & Quarantined” Era. ☕️📖✨

Forced to stay home due to HFMD, so I’m leaning into the silver lining: coffee, my favorite chunky knit (check out my business @purlstudio.co) and finally making a dent in my TBR.

My 2026 reading slump has been tough. Just DNF’d For Whom the Belle Tolls (the “perfect” characters and afterlife customer service just wasn’t for me. Like who would CHOOSE to work when they could do anything they wanted) and switched to The Fate of the Sun King.

I think I’m officially on a Romantasy break until October when we get acotar 6. Although a re-read may be in order. But I need something fresh to help me out of this slump!

Ok, I know I said no more romantasy for a while but up next is the stunning Rites of the Starling deluxe edition because it’s staring at me from my shelf 😂

The “2026 Triage” Reading Update

Hi friends! It’s been a while, but I’m popping on to update you on my 2026 reading journey so far. 🎧📖

To be honest, 2026 has been heavy. We’ve had the “daycare plague” for the past month and I’ve been sick pretty much the whole year. I’ve noticed a lot of people hitting unfollow while I’ve been away (and that’s okay!) but for those of you who stay even when I’m unable to be active, I appreciate you so much. ❤️

The Slump Strategy: Usually Romantasy is my jam, but I’ve been struggling to get into it lately. By switching genres and taking the pressure off, here is what I’ve accomplished so far:

🏆 The High: Broken Country has been my favorite of the year!
⚖️ The Switch-Up: Amanda Knox’s new book was a great change of pace.
🚩 The Low: The Woman in Cabin 10. I’ve read a few of Ruth Ware’s books now and I’m just not sure her style suits my reading preference.

I’ve been leaning heavily into podcasts and my Libby holds lately. I’m still obsessed with my Dungeon Crawler Carl audios (counting down to Parade of Horrible in May! 🦖) but I need more to fill the gap.

HELP: I’m looking for audio recommendations that can live up to Jeff Hayes as Carl and Princess Donut. Who should I listen to next? 👇

I didn’t have time to make a reel of this pretty little cover I bedazzled but still wanted to share with all you besties my latest work!

If you haven’t tried bedazzling your books yet you really should give it a try while you listen to an audio book. It’s so relaxing and fun! You can get all your supplies on Amazon and all you need is to pick one of your favorite paperbacks with a pretty cover!

HI FRIENDS!! It’s me!!! Hi!! 🙋‍♀️

I haven’t been here in a while. Like a long while! Taking a break was good. I have been back at work and also been doing a little girl bossing on the side working on starting my own small business and it’s kept me BUSY. Not to mention having a 16 month old toddling around everywhere.

I’m in a bit of a reading slump these days. I’ve started a few books and can’t seem to get into any of them. I also had some ARCs and ALCs that I’m way past my deadline on because I couldn’t get into those either… oops! Hopefully I will get to them soon.

I’ve been watching the new season of Bridgerton though! It’s easy to do while I am knitting for my new business (If you’re interested you can check it out @purlstudio.co)

Hi friends! Happy New Year!

You may have noticed I have been a bit MIA. You might not have noticed. That’s okay too. I hope you all had a lovely holiday season with your family and friends❤️🎄Our Christmas was great (despite a household sickness that’s STILL lingering.. what the heck is with this flu).

I have been giving things a lot of thought and just wanted to let you all know that I am not going anywhere, but I am probably not going to be as active posting on this account for a while. I have really enjoyed booksta and I still want to see all your posts and engage and talk about books when I can, but I have to take a small step back. I returned to work this week from my maternity leave and I am a busy toddler mom and I just feel like instead of focussing on those things I was putting pressure on myself to try to keep up with booksta and it was beginning to feel more like work than fun (I don’t do free labor🤣).

I’m still here and will share what I can when I can. And I still wanna make friends and talk books and my DMs are open. I still have some ARCs and ALC’s to post about coming up. I’ll be around. Just maybe not as often. I hope you will understand and still wanna be my book besties! 🥰
