Flight Over the Ghats.

The Story & Composition:
This frame was born out of exploring the ghats of Varanasi, trying to capture the joyful, uncomplicated rhythm of everyday life during a beautiful evening by the river. The composition utilizes a wide-angle perspective to frame the sweeping, diagonal architecture of the stone steps, freezing a young boy mid-dive at the absolute apex of his leap over the water. But beyond the high-speed kinetic energy of the children playing, the true narrative heart of the image sits quietly on the upper steps. Look closely, and you see Hindu and Muslim residents sitting side-by-side, sharing the same space and spending their evening in complete harmony at one of the world’s most deeply religious sites. The Story & Composition:
While observing the intense, ceaseless proceedings at Manikarnika Ghat, this specific Sadhu walked away from the noise, climbed onto the retaining wall, and sat down to meditate as if the rest of the world had completely ceased to exist. I was captivated by the absolute story of his stillness—how, amidst the roaring heat of burning pyres and the emotional weight of the ghat, he remained completely unshakeable, like a rock. To capture the raw essence of this internal quietude without the distraction of surface details, I chose to shoot a stark silhouette, deliberately exposing strictly for the brilliant highlights of the fire. The Rhythm of the Lane.

The Story & Composition:
While shooting in this narrow alleyway, I had a sudden, profound realization that I was looking at the entire cycle of existence captured in a single frame. To document this final journey of life toward Shiva, I positioned the camera low to let the concrete ledges act as continuous leading lines, drawing the eye through the layers of the street. In the immediate foreground sits a massive black bull—symbolizing Nandi, the sacred vehicle of Shiva—while a man rests peacefully on a ledge just beneath a mural of a Sadhu whose hand is raised in an eternal blessing. Cutting through this stillness is the kinetic gravity of four men carrying a body toward the final rituals. The Story & Composition:
Captured at a temple tank, this frame is all about immediacy, motion, and raw life. I used a wide-angle perspective to fully immerse the viewer in the environment, capturing the grand scale of the surrounding steps and red structures. Just as I set up the shot, this young boy emerged from the holy water, freezing a split-second, completely unprompted glance right into my lens. The dynamic foreground energy of his wet skin and intense expression pairs beautifully with the slow, distant rhythm of the pilgrims gathering at the water’s edge in the background.

Devotion in the Details.

The Story & Composition:
This shot is an exercise in texture and layered storytelling. I intentionally brought the lens extremely close to the ancient temple wall, using a shallow depth of field to make the hand-carved stone deities razor-sharp and tactile in the foreground. The rough, sun-baked stone serves as a heavy leading line that guides the viewer’s eye into the soft, blurred background, where a devotee in a yellow shirt stands in quiet prayer. It bridges the gap between the timeless art of the past and the living faith of the present.

The Silent Threshold.

The Story & Composition:
For this frame, I wanted to play with intense structural symmetry to isolate a solitary human element. The ornate, beautifully tiled facade with its intricate geometric patterns and closed arched gate created a perfect, flat canvas. By positioning the Sadhu in his vibrant saffron cloak completely off-center in the lower-left third, his presence breaks the rigid symmetry of the architecture. The contrast between the cold, patterned ceramic tiles and the living, breathing gaze of the subject turns a quiet moment of rest into a powerful narrative about waiting at the threshold of the sacred.
