Had such a fun time @chicagofashioncoalition awards @mcachicago saw some familiar faces and even got a chance to meet some new ones. Working in the fashion scene this year with @antixartfest really opened so many doors for me, I’m forever grateful for the work we all do in this community! My miniature sculpture titled: Where we rest 🌅 Aug-Jan2024I was so overthinking this post, after you work on something for so long it’s hard to show the world. I began this piece in August of 2023 first as a school project but as I spent more time with it, it turned into something so much more. In December of 2022 I lost my father and a few months after I lost my Brother. Nothing never hurt me as much as going through that time. I was mad at the world, it’s nothing like being 19 and planning funerals for the people you love the most, most of all I just felt alone. One day I decided I can’t let depression win. Im not religious so when it came to picturing a heaven for them it was hard. So I began to create a miniature version of what heaven means to me, where I would wish to picture them and spend time with them. I picture them playing cards in front of the house and having smoke breaks by the pond. Most of all building this was for me. To actually feel what I was going to through and not just ignore it all and this became a mental place where we can all rest. by @charlesa.xo

Chicago fashion walked into a tech room and made itself impossible to ignore.Yesterday, CFC joined @1871tech’s Techpalooza for TechChicago Week: our first public test of PROTOTYPE, a digital product passport connecting six Chicago designers (@allweremember, @project.tono, @productionmode, @jossblake, @ivesbarrera, @seresfootwear) to their materials, care, and purchase path in a single scan.250 people came through. My mom has arthritis. The pain in her hands makes something as simple as turning on a lamp hard some days.Like most of us, she hates the big overhead light. But most motion sensor lamps on the market feel clinical, more hospital room than home.So I built her something else. Sun-Drop Flower is a robotic lamp armature with a motion sensor that responds to hand movement, no switch needed. Just a small gesture and it turns on for her.This is what happens when accessible design starts with someone you love as the brief. by @charlesa.xo

Last season, @antixartfest brought a whole world to life on screen and on the runway. My piece was carrying that world into the venue itself.I designed the wayfinding and bar menus for the show, drawing from the aesthetics of The Re-Inventor to build a system rooted in old Hollywood grandeur.Nine signs, three menus, all designed in @figma, @adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, then cut, printed, adhered laser cut, and spray painted by hand.By the end, guests could move through the entire space inside the story.Special thanks to @casscellina , @_ellie.marcela_ , @frndlydsgn @benji.hamgeri , @dapper_griot, @luke.dhans Building this with you made it what it was. by @charlesa.xo

Had the chance to design two sets in collaboration with @studiosevoia & @thepearhouse.shop. This project taught me how color theory shapes a production set, and how the colors you choose directly shape how people perceive the space. We were going for that moment of beginning, when the deep night sky is just turning to morning and the sun is peeking over the horizon. Blue and orange sit opposite each other on the color wheel, which is why the pairing feels so alive. The photos will live on @thepearhouse.shop website and socials, and I’m grateful I got to help build these sets. Their opening party is this Saturday, May 16th in Wicker Park. Yes, and honestly it feeds my soul every single time 🌱I’ve spent years studying design through the lens of UX, visual hierarchy, and color theory, and what I love most is taking those principles beyond the screen and into physical spaces. Understanding how the eye moves, how color creates mood, and how every element should have a purpose translates into every medium I touch.This shoot, “In Bloom,” was my first time stepping fully into a set design role and I got to apply all of that. From the way we layered textures to how we used color to guide the eye through each look, nothing was an accident.
