Chance to work with the amazing team at @diningumd to prepare a small bite. We cooked up 325 salmon tostadas with fresh guacamole, mango salsa, roasted tomato salsa and cilantro micro greens. The micro greens were grown specifically for this event by @umdalumni and owner of @tinyfarmduluth Eddy Gilmore (thank you!) The response was positive. We distributed links to the online recipe to help promote locally sourced food and nutritious foods you can make as a student while showcasing the talents of our remarkable chefs and dining team by @charlesnies

As @umnduluth kicks off Homecoming week and @umn.campuses celebrate 175 Years of education in Minnesota, we passed out 300 cookies in 15 minutes at the @kirbyumd. Extraordinary on so many levels. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to celebrate by @charlesnies

Throughout the month of September, I had the chance to spend time “in the wild” with our campus community. Wonderful time in our beautiful spaces celebrating our values of curiosity, connection and compassion. Thank you to the student groups who helped support the effort, the colleagues who helped coordinate and the many scholars who stopped by to chat. “The special courage it takes to experience belonging is not just about braving the wilderness. It’s about becoming the wilderness.” Brené Brown by @charlesnies

A great week of getting out and about with our Bulldogs!

From the Student Scholars Art Showcase on Wednesday, to a “Chancellor in the Wild” pop-up hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council on Thursday, followed by the 2026 Fall Volunteer & Engagement Fair, it was a beautiful September week to connect with students across campus and celebrate all the ways Bulldogs learn, create, lead, and serve.

It’s great seeing our campus demonstrate curiosity, connection, and compassion. by @charlesnies

Yesterday perfectly captured the spirit of our university community @umnduluth . We kicked things off with an informal opportunity to connect directly with students "In the Wild", had a great time meeting student groups during the @kirbyumd Activities Fair, and capped it off with a thrilling home opener victory with @umdfootball Even a lightning delay couldn't dampen the energy of our fans. Great day to celebrate curiosity, connection and compassion — a great day to be a Bulldog! by @charlesnies

As September rolls in, I’m reflecting on what a beautiful summer it’s been here in Duluth—from stunning Lake Superior sunrises and 4th of July fireworks to local festivals. But the absolute best part was having both of the girls under one roof again.

Watching them head off to start their next chapters, one heading back to college and the other stepping into life as a college graduate, is truly bittersweet. The quiet in the house is hard, but my heart is overflowing with pride for everything they’ve accomplished and I couldn't be prouder of the women they are becoming. by @charlesnies
