We want to thank our family, friends, and vendors for the most extraordinary day of our lives. God has blessed us with the most incredible villages and to know that those villages have helped us execute something so meaningful and establish our core foundation in Christ and community means the world to us. A really cool morning touring my hospital’s NICU/PICU and Shock Trauma Units. Working in philanthropy operations for our School of Medicine and hospital is a lot about communication, documentation, strategy, coordination, donors, meetings, and events. It’s so important and touching to get moments like these to see the why behind the work. NICU newborns alone in their little beds, fighting for their lives and waiting for their next visits from parents who need time to work or support their other children. The helipad landing dock where patients across Maryland get flown in for Trauma care. And so much more that was so fascinating to see…

Interesting fact: One ride in a helicopter for medical transport costs thousands of dollars. When Maryland residents register their vehicles, a portion of the fee goes to funding Shock Trauma transportation. Maryland drivers essentially help fund the emergency medical infrastructure that can save their lives, even if we never need a helicopter ourselves. Being Nigerian and celebrating Nigerian culture, for me, has been so much more than just engaging in the jollof rivalry conversations or participating in aso ebi squads. It has been about knowing where my parents’ native villages are and paying my respects to generations of my family. It’s been about my husband and uncle arranging for my traditional bride price to go toward the education of children on my paternal side back home. It’s been about knowing I am descended from survivors and entrepreneurs of a famine and war. It’s been about keeping in touch with family thousands of miles away since I was 5 years old. It’s been about learning shared language and sharing deep-rooted values.

As an American-born child of Nigerian immigrants, there would be no me without my blended cultures. I am so grateful that I get to be from such a vibrant and beautiful background that instilled in me my drive in education, career, marriage, and family, as well as my faith in the Lord.

Happy Independence Day Naija. Thank you for giving me life and confidence in my identity, especially when American-anti blackness, colorism and xenophobia made me doubt my worth as a human being.

They say we’re the giant of Africa, but we’re giants in health, tech, law, engineering, music, art, and more. We’re the giants of my heart and I’ll never take us for granted.

6 months married today. My love, thank you for the greatest 6 months of my life. As newlyweds, people often want to know the flaws of your relationship or when the next big thing is happening. I take comfort in sharing all of the beauty and challenge and minute detail of our life together solely with you and God. The next update and the update that will always be true — God is so good. 10 years ago today, I was an RSVP Coordinator at KCD, one of the top fashion Public Relations agencies in the world, helping set up Marc Jacob’s Spring/Summer 2017 New York Fashion Week show featuring the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, and more. Today, I attended an investiture of an esteemed physician and newly endowed professor for the medical school I work for. Life is WILD and I’ll never stop being amazed by the experiences I’ve had and the people I’ve gotten to meet. My life has been defined by evolution, risk tolerance, and change. And honestly, I’m not mad at that. How many people can say that they have gone after every dream they’ve ever had? I can’t imagine what the next 10 years will look like, but I hope I maintain this feeling of curiosity, amazement and respect for what I get to do and whom I get to support. by @charleychiomascheiderer

This Labor Day morning, I taught my first outdoor retreat immersive movement class with my Eastern Regional Evangelical Lutheran Synod church members. What a beautiful experience it was to practice our faith through postures of praise, lakeside, as the sun rose. After becoming a registered 200-hour yoga instructor, I formed my practice, @withhimimove (WHIM), knowing it didn’t fit the mold of traditional yoga nor traditional Christian worship. But to blend and neutralize yoga’s physicality with the spirituality of my faith has been my way of showing light in this world in a way that I believe honors the Word I follow.

What a privilege it was to share my practice with people who took a chance on something new and embraced this method of exercise and praise.

Wishing everyone a relaxing and rejuvenating Labor Day. It is a great feeling to focus on our stillness, instead of our labor. We are loved so deeply just for living and breathing as we are.

I’m used to years of my own leadership conferences, elections, competitions, and performances. Being his wife has shown me a retrograde mirror that I never imaged I’d marry 😂 He’s my past self in male form and it’s my honor sitting back and supporting his shine ✨ So proud of him and this inspiring organization.
