I met and photographed Carlo yesterday in the North Laine, Brighton. I noticed his sense of style, but was really struck by his easy-going charm. More details on my latest Substack, link in bio. Thank you, Carlo, it was a pleasure meeting you. #northlainebrighton #brighton #style #brightonstyle #streetportraits by @charliedefe

Moments of magic in a blissful and challenging summer ☀️ by @charliedefe

Let me tell you about a place.

I go there
when things feel out of my reach,
when my heart can't find its match out here,
when I struggle to understand my own breath,
when I want to know
what colour pain is.

And the door is always open.

Someone looks at me and says,
“Come on in.
We’ve got exactly what you need.”

I go there
when joy feels like a litre of water
trying to fit inside a coffee cup,
when every inch of my body
bursts with heat,
when I wish my smile
could keep following its own trajectory
until it closes into a circle
right in the middle of my forehead.

I go there
when limitations become details,
when discomfort becomes a story,
when the old ladder of hierarchy
turns into a hundred drumsticks.

Where differences laugh together
like bubble wrap popping
beneath the tip-tap feet of a dancer.

Where you are still walking on this earth,
still playing your guitar.

Where we are still together.

Where I become more
than my body alone,
more than the sum
of my experiences and feelings.

I become the distance
a wave travels.

I become the heat of the sun
flowing through the veins of a leaf.

I become the embers
of a million fires.

Until I stop becoming.

And I simply come to be.

It’s called MUSIC.

Intention
a whisper to the universe

is love given direction, purpose given breath, and dreams given roots.
