5 ways ro help with puppy biting! 1. Redirect Their Energy: Provide chew toys and redirect their biting to these toys. This helps them learn what’s okay to bite and what’s not. 2. Use Positive Reinforcement: Praise and reward your puppy when they chew on appropriate items. This encourages them to repeat good behavior. Attention is attention to a puppy. So praising them for good behavior will help them do more of this behavior. 3. Stop playing and ignore them for a short period to show biting stops the fun. Stand up and walk away. If they try to jump up to bite, use a leash to help manage them. 4. Socialize with Other Puppies: Allow your puppy to play with other vaccinated puppies. They learn bite inhibition from each other through natural play! 5. Be Patient and Consistent: Training takes time. Be patient, consistent. 🌟What I will never do as a dog trainer WITH a puppy!!! I will never keep them home until they’re 4 months old!! A puppies last super impressionable stage is between 8-12 weeks of age. Of during this stage of life they are exposed to nothing and then all of the sudden at 16 weeks exposed to everything it makes for VERY nervous and anxious pups. Yes, medically dogs need all their shots to be safe and safety is our number one priority. BUT there are so many places your puppy can go that the risk of them contracting anything is VERY slim. Keeping them out of high dog trafficked areas and staying on the sidewalks is key. We frequent shopping centers, malls, dog friendly stores ( NOT PET STORES!) There are so many ways to socialize your pup safely. When you expose them to sounds, environments, different textures, you help set them up for success. Be aware of who your pup interacts with and we always say NO to saying hi to strangers dogs! If you don’t know the dog- it’s a hard no. 🌟Our story: We bought the best golden girl and was 100% confident I knew what I was doing and could train her! I quickly realized I needed help and didn’t actually know what I thought I did! We started training and fell in LOVE with it and started training professionally. We wanted to be close to family when our family started grown by humans and not just dogs! This created the start of @charlotraining . We’ve spent the last 8 years connecting with and helping 1000’s of families communicate more effectively with their pups! Keeping dogs in homes that otherwise would have been re-homed. Helping incredibly reactive dogs learn to settle and be calm, helping dogs who were on so much anxiety meds they couldn’t function get off their meds! We have a passion for dogs and helping them, but we have an even bigger passion for helping owners LEARN HOW to communicate with their dogs!
