“Book Love Bar had the honor of showcasing ‘I Want You To Want Me.’ This sold out show was transformative, haunting, uplifting, and achingly beautiful. Though the room was full, cat’s words felt like you were the sole person in the room—all this was meant for you. And…it felt like a wave of collective community breath all releasing at once. Bringing us back to each other. ‘I Want You To Want Me’ is a battle cry to love yourself shamelessly…To say I loved this show is too small and simple a thing to say. I, as a woman, a poet, a community event organizer, was transported. And I am in still in awe. This is a show of generosity, honesty, realignment, and big big love..”

Welcome @chbloves 💕 this FREE poetry writing workshop is open for registration!
An embodied poetry workshop exploring migration through memory, identity, belonging, and transformation using somatic practice.
re-membering the way: an embodied exploration of migration through the poetry of our lived experience.

what does it mean to migrate?
to leave one place and enter another. to cross a threshold. to carry what has shaped us while becoming someone or something new.
in this embodied poetry workshop, we will explore migration not only as movement across land, but as movement through memory, identity, longing, belonging, and transformation. through somatic practice, contemplation, community, and writing, we will listen for the stories held in the body—we will follow the threads that help us journey back to the places we have come from, and lead us forward into where we long to go.
we will notice what we have carried, what we want to put down, and the ways we have changed. we will acknowledge and make space for the selves still asking to be born.
together, we will explore poetry as a living practice: a way of listening beneath language, following what the body knows, and giving form to what is moving within us.
no previous writing or movement experience is necessary. come as you are, come curious. this is an invitation to re-member our inner and outer migration as the sacred movement of becoming. by @chbloves

i think a lot of us figure “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” but when @forrestfortrees and i got together to start a poetry open mic @northstarlounge we wanted to create something a little bit different.

i wanted us to ask “is there anything about the way this is normally done, about the way these spaces are traditionally held, that doesn’t always feel great?” yes? cool. let’s get curious about doing THAT differently.

our community has embraced each little tweak as they’ve emerged: how we enter and leave the space. how and when we take the stage. using breath and other somatic practice to root into our bodies and offer ourselves and each other the deepest presence we can. weaving group discussion on what it means to be a poet or on the theme that’s magically/ synergistically risen out of everyone’s hearts/pages that evening. 🪄

we wanted something new. and what we got was a space that is BLOOMING with beautiful, vibrant, creative beings that hold our space down with love and compassion and grace, through their wide open hearts.

we’ve created an evening for folx like us who are obsessed with word and language. and ironically, so much of what happens in this space each month is ineffable. 🥹

i am SO proud of US. and i LOVE us.

today i picked tomatoes that had been given the time and the space to ripen to their fullest potential on the vine. each time i popped one into my mouth i felt the LIFE FORCE 🍅 💥 ✨ BURST into my body. my cells flooded with energy as the fruit surrendered its light/life into mine.

getting to work on the farm the last 6 months or so i have found there is absolutely no limit to how deeply i might fall in love with food and with our earth. the beauty, generosity, and abundance of this place moves me to tears, every single day. i am just like my mama 🌏—i take some work…and with care, with tending to, i/we flourish.

thank you farmer Casey 👩🏼‍🌾 and farmer Eric 👨🏻‍🌾 for being such patient teachers, and for your passion that inspires me the moment i step onto the land, and streams/bleeds into all my other work for days after i leave. y’all mean so much to me. truly. 🙏🏽

my first THREE shows were at @northstarlounge —which when i was a kiddo was an Italian restaurant called Argiero’s. i’d go there with my family and sit in the corner eating my italian sausage in red sauce, pleading with my lil brother to evolve his palate past his bowl of butter noodles 🍜.

my fifth and final show, for now, in my beloved hometown, (that this show reveals my complicated relationship with) is @espycafe —which sits right beside an old barn looking building that was a sort of general store called ‘Fireside’. there was a baker and a butcher. you could also rent movies there. i spent my childhood among the aisles, feigning indecisiveness over flavours of Better Made chips while really lingering around to smell the fresh baked bread in a place i felt welcome and safe to loiter.

what a thing it has been, to emerge from HERE, as a HEALING ARTIST—to grow from the ground that grew me. 🌱

when i told this story to my folx @espycafe their response was “is there something special we could BAKE from your childhood? something special to drink? and we could serve it after you perform and INVITE folx to LOITER?”

the Universe be too cute sometimes y’all…lil kisses on the forehead, lettin me know we in the RIGHT place 🏡.

to say @thehealingfeast is/was sort of DREAM come true for me is not just a turn of phrase. if y’all know me you know that FOOD is truly one of the loves of my life 😭. so to be invited in to PLAY—to gather in COMMUNITY around food FOR our HEALING—that’s just so much of what i love coming TOGETHER. 🙏🏽

thank you @saribrownmusic for the invitation and for the SPACE—for the creative FREEDOM and the trust. to be ALLOWED to WEAVE together somatic practice, poetry, and community conversation—to say to me, to artists, “here’s your time, please just share your gifts in the way that feels good.” MMM…now THAT’s what i call DELICIOUS ALLOWANCE (😘🤣).

12- a silly snap of me watching one of the MILLION 🏀 games i tape a night. last week another DREAM come true, i began life coaching my first ATHLETE. so grateful to be one who continues to ALLOW their OBSESSIONS to lead them 🥹 such BLESSING ✨

14- getting dressed last night to go perform at a dinner for the Michigan Justice Fund Retreat for folx serving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated folx. serving people who serve people, this is the BEST work i get to do. 🙇🏽‍♀️
