Sometimes what feels like a setback is actually preparation. The closed door, the delay, the discomfort, the season that forces you to be patient when you’re ready to move forward. You may not understand why Allah changed the plan, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a plan. Some seasons are meant to stretch you before they elevate you. Trust the process, trust the timing, and most importantly trust Allah. 🤲🏾 “Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you.” Qur’an 2:216 Alhamdulillah through every season. by @chefhurra

COVID, dental school, residency, studying for boards, licensure, work, stress, comfort food… somewhere in the middle of all of that, I stopped taking care of myself the way I used to. 🧠📚🦷

I started noticing it little by little. My old suits didn’t fit anymore. I was buying bigger T-shirts. The weight kept creeping up, and eventually I had to be real with myself and say, “Faraj, you have to get it together.” 😅

I know the muscle memory is still there 💪🏾, but for me this is bigger than just losing weight or getting back in shape.

I want to become better in every aspect of my life. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. Professionally. 📈

The hard part is trying to balance everything at the same time. Sometimes I’m doing great in one area while another part of my life quietly starts slipping.

I’m not trying to become perfect overnight. I’m just trying to become better, one decision at a time, and hold myself accountable along the way. 🙏🏾 by @chefhurra

Sometimes helping doesn’t require us to be the ones on the ground. It means making sure the people who are there have what they need to save lives.

These medical containers help put real supplies into the hands of healthcare workers serving communities in need.

If you’re able to help, donate today. Every contribution moves these supplies closer to the patients who need them.

How I passed licensure:

My journey to passing the ADEX dental licensure exam began with investing in an at-home dental setup during my second year of dental school. While I initially told myself I'd practice daily, my practice sessions ended up being concentrated right before each practical exam. This focused preparation helped me pass most of the exams.

I embraced the times I failed practicals and had to remediate; those experiences built my character and pushed me to improve my skills for the dental licensure exam. I learned that if you fail one part of the licensure exam, you have to retake the entire section over, which could be daunting. There were times when I'd make what I thought was a critical error early in the procedure and want to give up, but I learned to persevere. Sometimes the error wasn't as critical as I thought, and my ability to handle the stress improved each time.

When I entered the clinic as a D3 student, I treated myself to a new pair of ergonomic loupes 👓 . This was the best investment I made because it improved my precision and comfort during procedures.

For endodontics, I practiced consistently and took photos of my work on the manikin to get feedback from three endodontics specialists. After my endodontics class, I never failed a practical.

Prosth 3 to 5 was a struggle for me, and I had to put in extra effort. Preparing numerous crowns benefited me greatly, as I practiced late into the night during Ramadan 🌙 , often staying up until 3 a.m. in the week before the exam. When I passed prosth, my confidence in passing licensure grew.

The first part of licensure consisted of prosthodontics, endodontics, and periodontics, and it took place during Ramadan. The second part of licensure was administered after Ramadan.

For operative, I practiced a week before the exam by focusing solely on cutting preps on the manikin. Just two days before the exam, I visited the school to cut a prep and had 10 different instructors examine it to provide varied feedback, which I used to my advantage. The day before licensure, I practiced restoring a couple of Class II preps on the manikin with composite.

A smile may seem simple, but it carries healing. It eases pain, bridges divides, and reminds us of our shared humanity. In a world that tries to strip away our dignity, choosing to smile, and to share it, becomes an act of strength and resistance.

By all means, maintain your smile. 🤍
