Join us for a one-night-only sensory journey where the wine flows, the records spin, and every detail is curated with intention. To celebrate ten years of Avant Garden’s trailblazing place in the plant-based dining world, we’re inviting NYC vinyl aficionado and nightlife staple Giancarlo Luiggi to play some of his favorite record sides.

This Monday night, from 6-9pm, he’ll be spinning deep cuts from his dinner-friendly vinyl collection-think rare 70s Brazilian grooves, cosmic jazz, Malian soundscapes, and maybe even a well-timed Sade track.

But this isn’t just a DJ set-Giancarlo has handpicked a flight of wines to harmonize with the vibe, the food, and the atmosphere, complete with a guide that maps each pour to its musical counterpart.

Whether you’re here for the notes in the glass, the notes in the air, or both-this is a celebration you can sip, savor, and sway to.

We are delighted and honored to resume our Musa Presents series with a performance by Mbira master Musikewa Chingodze on Sunday, September 18th from 7-10p at Sisters (900 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY).

Musekiwa Chingodza was born in Zimbabwe to a family of great mbira players. He began playing at the age of five after listening to other gwenyambira, or great mbira players. Originally used in spirit possession ceremonies, the iron-pronged mbira produces music beautiful enough to attract spirits and rhythmically charged enough to keep people dancing through all-night ceremonies. Musekiwa is in great demand to play for ceremonies in Zimbabwe, as well as touring the US, Europe and Japan. His soulful voice and virtuosic playing is some of the best of this genre in the world today. Musekiwa states “Our music is both medicine and food, as mbira has the power to heal and to provide for people. Mbira pleases both the living and the dead.”

Mbira (the name of both the instrument and the music) is mystical music which has been played
for over a thousand years by the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Mbira pervades all aspects of Shona culture, both sacred and secular. Its most
important function is as a "telephone to the spirits", used to contact both deceased ancestors and tribal guardians at all-night
ceremonies.

Join us for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music!

Suggested donation $5-25
