I've never been accused of not being ambitious. 🙃

But I do get accused of, "just lucky", a lot.

Nobody sees the true behind the scenes of the actual work, rides the emotional roller coaster with you, or feels the weight of all the sacrifices & decisions that lead to being deemed "lucky".

It doesn't matter. I'm here to enjoy the journey and be delusional AF about what I can accomplish on it.

Whatever your goal is, is best built by focusing on what you CAN do, rather than what you SHOULD do. 🤍 by @chelsea__kidd

But here are 6️⃣ tips to save 💲 when you compete:

1️⃣ Compete locally. Flights, hotels, rental cars and meals add up fast. Start with shows within driving distance when you can, and split a room with another competitor if you travel.

Link in bio to Women’s Bodybuilding & Lifestyle Athletes Facebook group, a great place to find women doing the same shows. 👯‍♀️

2️⃣ Coaching prices vary wildly. Also in the FB group, I have a free directory with 75+ coaches, pricing + other details to help you compare.

3️⃣ DIY where you feel comfy. Tan, hair and makeup will run hundreds on show weekend. If you’re comfortable doing your own, YouTube has plenty of competition-specific tutorials & ProTan has a diy kit.

4️⃣ Use discount codes - and you know I've got you! Tan, jewelry, suits, heels, posing, supplements—you name it and it can be found in the Discount Resource in the FB group.

5️⃣ Buy your suit second hand or rent. You do not need a brand-new suit every season, the suit in this video was 2nd hand and she served me well for 4 shows. Competitors resell beautiful suits all the time - check Poshmark, mercari, and specific FB groups for this.

6️⃣ Seriously, and I say this with love... Do some inner work after your season and before prepping again.

Bodybuilding has a way of revealing things: your relationship with food, body image, validation, perfectionism, comparison, and what happens when the applause stops.

Pay attention to what prep and post show bring to the surface.

Sometimes the smartest investment after a show isn’t a better coach, suit or more supps. It’s doing the inner work so you don’t keep spending money trying to solve internally what another competition can’t fix.

Spend strategically. Compete intelligently. 🖤

Join the Facebook group through the link in my bio for the free coaching directory, competitor discounts + community.

We all know the thought: “If I’d started years ago, I’d already be there.” 💭

Maybe. But if the best time to start was years ago, the second-best time is now.

So, the advice 39-year-old me would give 19-year-old me?

Stop searching for faster. Consistency compounds.

After 20+ years in fitness, six bodybuilding shows and years spent coaching women, these are the lessons that would have saved me years of frustration, unnecessary restriction and constantly wondering whether I was doing enough.

I see the same patterns play out with my 1:1 clients, challenge participants and women throughout the PB Facebook community. Meaningful progress rarely looks dramatic day to day.

It looks like executing the plan, respecting the timeline, recovering properly and getting obsessed with the wins nobody else sees.

That’s how you build the physique, the capacity, and the confidence that takes you from good-enough to THRIVING.

Which lesson do you wish you’d learned sooner? by @chelsea__kidd

Gratitude and grief. Zero days left in Valle de Bravo & zero regrets for embracing this chapter.

That's a wrap on this 3 month digital nomad adventure. It ended with a grander finale than I would have imagined (will later-gram).

I'm in awe of the kindness in the people I met, the beauty of the places I visited, and just how much it hurts to leave places that start to feel like home.

Time to embrace the next chapter. taken in Valle de Bravo, Mexico by @chelsea__kidd

What started as a 5-day Salkantay trek somehow became 4 days. 🤷🏼‍♀️

And I'm learning most people don't do this unguided + without porters.

At some point in that escalation, it occurred to me that 45 miles of high-elevation hiking under load probably deserved a little more preparation than "I lift weights, get my steps, and eat well."

Honestly, I love being a little bit out of my physical comfort zone.

🧗🏼‍♀️Climbing above my grade.
🏄🏼‍♀️Surfing hurricane swells with the boys.
👙Spending months getting stage lean.

Apparently hiking through the Andes with a pack is the next fix.

But I know when I'm flirting with the line between physically challenging and miserably under prepared.

So this month, I adjusted my training:

✨ I trained quads again. First time in 4+ years. They were deemed "almost too big" for bikini so I never train them directly. But climbing and descending demand a lot from them, so they've gotta wake up. Calf training was brought back into rotation as well.

✨ More eccentric work: step-downs, reverse deficit lunges, tempo work. Especially to prepare for long descents, single-leg control, and repeated force absorption matter.

✨ Rivoting adjustment - more hiking. I moved to a variation of the @physique_blueprint 2 day per week, full body split which I loved and it freed up bandwidth for aerobic conditioning via hikes.

✨ Added more mobility and thoracic stability work. Important for me because I have mild scoliosis, and carrying a pack for hours has the potential to expose weaknesses fast.

✨ This week, I'm deloading, freeing up a bigger window for sleep & recovery. Travel, altitude, training, and hiking have created enough accumulated fatigue. Another hard week now would probably just make me more tired going into the trek.

It's been a fun experiment & I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel on the mountain (s).

Training for mirrors & mountains - we can have both. 🤍 by @chelsea__kidd

Maslow's Peak Experiences, this theory says 👇🏼

These experiences are the rare moments of awe, wonder, and peak aliveness that can temporarily shift the way we see ourselves and the world around us.

Basically, neurological leaps, triggered by incredible experiences.

For me, I feel this every time I get to blend novelty, physical challenge, nature, and a little fear.

These moments are so much more than a pretty photo.

It’s landing on the other side of the experience with a slightly bigger idea of what life can be.

⛰️ Macchu Pichu ⛰️ Every bit of the wonder I hoped for.

It was a beautiful day to explore one of the 7 wonders of the world. Here were my takeaways:

🦙 Tickets for Circuit 1 & 3 give great views and you get to walk through the ruins.

🦙 I rarely say this, but I do think this park is worth getting a guide to explore. I downloaded an app for more insights on the history & architecture. There's so much that doesn't meet the eye, a good guide is probably worth it here.

🦙 There are some additional hikes you can opt to do... Off of C1: MP Mountain (I didn't have time to complete this). Off of C3 Huayna Picchu (the mountain I'm pointing to in the photo). Very worthwhile hike & not as hard as it looked...I was also cheating by being in Peru a month to acclimate.

🦙 Prepare for long lines for entrance, boarding buses, etc. Bring snacks, water, and your passport. Pee before you enter the park gates

This part of my adventure unfolded a little different than anticipated, but I'm here for it. 🤍
