Chelsea College of Arts introduces ‘Alternating Current’, an exhibition showcasing the work of 68 graduating artists from the 2025-2026 MA Fine Art programme. The exhibition features painting, print, sculpture, installation, performance, video and sound works. Alternating Current sees artists traverse the social, environmental, political, and psychological.

Periodically reversing direction.

Magnitudes change continuously with time.

The present moment is in flux.

An unpredictable force that sweeps you up before you have time to notice your
suspension – cradled or constrained.

The current as passage, a networked interconnectedness, a collectivity where one
stream feeds into the other, a flow in continuum.

Deviations and resistances give rise to transformation and alternativity – becomings
and lines of flight that beget the unpredictable.

Networked systems connect across vast terrains.

The body and the self might be a cluster of flowing currents.

UNDER EXAMINATION
Group Exhibition

To examine is to assume that something can be known. Under Examination exists where that certainty breaks down.

Bringing together works by Karson Selah Samons, Zhu Wanqi, Lara Chachine, Esmé Matthews, Zili Jiang, and Qiye Huang, the exhibition explores the tension between the body as an object of observation and the body as a site of visceral experience.

Across video, painting, and sculpture, the works move between memory, anxiety, violence, ecological concern, mortality, and the everyday, asking what happens when what seems distant or abstract becomes physically and psychologically immediate.

🎟️ PV: Thursday, 10th September, 6 – 9 PM
🔗 RSVP via Sensaflare’s bio
📍 Hypha HQ, Unit 3, Euston Tower, 286 Euston Road, NW1 3AS

Featuring artists from Chelsea MA Fine Art (@chelseamafa), this exhibition brings together a selection of emerging practices exploring diverse perspectives, materials, and approaches to contemporary art.

👤Participating artists:
Jidapa Suvanvihok (@jajidannn)
Lara Chahine (@_larachahine)
Hantao Zhuang (@titozzzht_)
Natasha Botelho Cook (@natashaxcook)

💭 How fully do we inhabit the present? Too often, it appears only as a passage between what has been and what is yet to come, shaped by memory, anticipation and the expectation of progress. Beneath everyday sameness, slow changes continue to gather in bodies, materials and memories.

Drawing on the temporal structure of Solvej Balle’s On the Calculation of Volume, the exhibition takes November 18 as a model for a present no longer organised by linear progression. In the novel, the protagonist Tara Selter becomes detached from linear time and remains within the same date, which repeats without ever becoming identical. By holding a single day open through recurrence, the exhibition asks what becomes visible when forward movement is suspended.

Within this temporal framework, the nineteen artists enter the present through different material languages and experiences of memory, perception, the body and place. Across diverse media, repetition takes the form of mechanical movement and ritual gesture, layering and erosion, recurring images and motifs, and sustained acts of looking, listening and remembering, bringing subtle differences into view.

Discover the participating artists and visit the exhibition at Hypha HQ.

Introducing MAFA 25/26 artist Dukai Wang @dk_w3000

You can see Dukai’s work, along with the rest of MAFA, in our degree show which opens Monday 6th July and runs until Saturday 11th July

Dukai Wang (b. 1997) is a London-based artist who graduated from Chelsea College of Arts and the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

His practice explores screen experience, game worlds and digital visual culture through painting. He approaches the world inside the screen not as a space of escape, but as a field of lived experience shaped by memory, desire and imagination.

Drawing from games, online images, visual tropes and personal memories, Wang reconstructs fragments collected while moving through digital environments. His paintings often feature creatures, figures and partially recognisable forms that exist between game characters, psychological projections and personal mythology.

For Wang, painting becomes a way to slow down and materialise experiences that originally belong to accelerated screen-based spaces. His recent works form a travelogue from inside the screen world, preserving moments of wonder, uncertainty and fascination through the language of painting. taken in Chelsea College of Arts by @chelseamafa

Introducing MAFA 25/26 artist Lilymay Healy @lilymayhealy

You can see Lilymay’s work, along with the rest of MAFA, in our degree show which opens Monday 6th July and runs until Saturday 11th July

Lilymay Healy is an artist from Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematical Science from the University of Galway in 2023 and a Graduate Diploma of Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2025.

Healy works with textile, metal, drawing, painting, print, collected objects and writing. She creates mythopoetical vision machines in which moments of alignment, ruptures of vision and wave phenomena manifest new ways of seeing. Consisting of interactions between light sources, optical devices and textiles, her installations consider scientific imaging and the visualisation of the ephemeral, the imperceptible, the abstract, the infinitesimal and the unknown. She is interested in the slippage between states; landscape and sea, visible and invisible, particle and wave. By employing theatrical aesthetics she creates illusions as well as revealing their mechanisms.

Her work sits between the ornamental and illustrative, the speculative and experimental, the experiential and art as object. Through material decisions and craft techniques such as embroidery and appliqué, feminine labour and aesthetics sit in relation to a broader enquiry into performativity and identity construction. Through abstraction or the duplication of images, Healy investigates light as a conceptual framework for knowledge to project across the gaps between personal experience, natural phenomena, optical perception, scientific knowledge and artistic expression.

She is always looking for the glint.

Introducing MAFA 25/26 artist 李沐宸 (Mu-Chen Lee) @mu_chen.lucturne

You can see Mu-Chen’s work, along with the rest of MAFA, in our degree show which opens Monday 6th July and runs until Saturday 11th July

Mu-Chen Lee (b. 1996, Taipei) is an artist based in London. His work shows the reflection on the global world from lived experience, focusing on conversation of— time, narratives, moving and traveling, nationality and geopolitics. With a multi-disciplinary practice, he explores collective experience and questions the boundaries of cultural heritage, especially in the everydayness of the modern days.

Lee’s work shows the activities of ‘collecting, thinking, and be(com)ing’; the world surrounding him gets transformed into forms of his choice. “How do you read this?” is a repeating message he sends to viewers. Images can be universal; objects can seem ubiquitous, however, people will look for an index, or hold onto a standard for recognition, and in any ways decide either it is something ‘of within’ or something belonging to ‘the others’. If there were a manual for this seemingly realistic yet imaginary world, it would be a story; or to put it this way— gravity pulls.

Each individual creates a realm that draws in ‘萬事萬物 (every events and every beings, or simply everything)’, and then time exists. Lee’s work invites viewers to feel time in a nonlinear sense, when the past-present-and-future is folktales, historical events to be retold over and over until no one remembers.

Introducing MAFA 25/26 artist Feifan Qu @quinn_fahn

You can see Quinn’s work, along with the rest of MAFA, in our degree show which opens Monday 6th July and runs until Saturday 11th July

I mainly work with performance and installation art, focusing on psychological trauma and relevant social issues. Drawing on the body and nature as creative media, my works portray people trapped in recurring predicaments and engaging in futile self-healing, and explore how self-examination helps alleviate pain. I keep expanding my research to analyze how social factors shape people’s thinking and interpret the dual nature of reflection. I continually explore the core theme of confronting the past and embracing inner trauma. taken in Chelsea College of Arts by @chelseamafa
