For 2025 Chen Office re-launches and expands its scope of work into new territories: geographically, sonically, visually, and spatially. The first project of the new series takes place 01.10.25 in Tokyo. As creative consultant for @orizuru_tokyo we are assisting in rebranding the former club as a music production company to bring the esteemed @en.festival back to @womb_tokyo. Headlining the event is Grammy Award-winning musician and DJ Black Coffee, who returns to Tokyo after 8 years for a start-to-finish set. Taking cues from the brand of Orizuru, Japanese for "paper crane," we propose an analog and nostalgic detour away from the hyper-futurist landscape of the Tokyo club scene. The brief asked how to do a lot with a littleโ€”transforming the space the way a piece of paper can be transformed into a reverie of flight. The metaphor of flight organizes the multiple rooms of the club, and experiential design will bridge past and future, weaving Japanese sensibilities into the international club scene. Leaving the main stage untouched to showcase the musicality of Black Coffee, additional light/design installations will re-the public zones of the club, and emerging filmmakers have been curated in collaboration with En Festival resident DJs to create a new sonic-visual performance. Repost @pool.la : We try to find the cracks, or those split seconds between images, fissures, moments between light and dark, day and night, slumber and being awake. Dream Land is a film about memory, time, and place. Here, we talk to director Steve Chen about the film, centering the conversation through captured stills from the film.
