My sweet kind gentle father peacefully passed away yesterday morning. He was an army helicopter pilot, educator, counselor, farmer, cattleman, and friend. He was many things, but to me, he was my dad. He was the person that always took my hand and said “You can do this.”
He loved tootsie roll pops, ice cream, peppermints and always had a can of peanuts in his pickup and iced tea in his water jug. One of his superpowers was always finding the best spot in the parking lot closets to the door. He was a gentleman and expected all of us to use our manors. He was a loyal and true OSU Cowboy fan and absolutely loved being on campus with his grandkids and going to games. Of all the things Jerry Thompson loved, my mom was who he loved the most. When God said “And the two shall become one” that is so true. He spoiled her and pampered her in such a gentlemanly way that you could see his love for her even if you didn’t know them. They had 62 years together starting in Stillwater to Germany and everywhere in between. I have been so proud of mom during his illness. She has taken such good care of Dad. If she could have loved him back to health he would be here today. Please keep her in your prayers. Dad’s funeral will be Tuesday afternoon. Maybe at 2:00. Thank you to all of you who have and will love us through this. by @cherylbfirth

What a wonderful weekend! I always love Labor Day weekend. It has always been the tradition to go to aunt Judy’s house to watch the parade. It was such a blessing to see so many people I hadn’t seen in a while. Thank you Judy for always hosting us. I am also very thankful all my kids were able to be home. They have grown up to be very fun adults. And as a special gift Drew and Hannah Rader got to spend a night with us. It felt like a slumber party. I am still smiling from all the fun, good food and laughs we had🥰 by @cherylbfirth

Yesterday was Match Day 2023 for 4th year medical students all across the country. At 11:00, they open their letters to see where they will go for their residency. During their 4th year they audition for a month at different hospitals to see what they like and interview. Then they make a list of what and where they want to go and ask everyone they know and even some they don’t to pray they get one of the programs they want. This doesn’t always turn out the way you want it to and it is stressful and heartbreaking. But yesterday, Ben got his top pick at OSU in Tulsa for Surgery. After 3 years of Rainbow Lane, 12 years of K-12, 4 1/2 years of college and 4 years of medical school and a ton of debt, Ben gets to start another 5 years of doing more of what he loves and actually get paid for it. @benjaminpfirth we are over the moon proud of you and so excited for this next chapter in your life! We are very thankful for our sweet daughter in law, Britton, for loving and taking care and supporting Ben. You have been such a blessing for him. I love you both and am extremely proud of you both. Our youngest, Sam, graduated today with his finance degree from Oklahoma State University. He will be moving to Tulsa to be a credit analyst for First National Bank. We are so proud of his hard work and dedication. This is our last kid to graduate from OSU. It has been a wonderful place and a home away from home. We could not have asked for a better place for our kids to further their education. Thank you Stillwater for all the memories and Go Pokes! by @cherylbfirth

Our sweet Audrey graduated with her Master’s in Design, Housing and Merchandising. We are so proud of all her hard work and dedication. Our sweet Sally girl passed away this weekend. She had no symptoms of even being sick. We came home from dinner and she was almost unresponsive. Joey McConnell met us at the clinic and she passed while we were there. We are broken-hearted. It is amazing how much our lives have been centered around her. She was such a comfort when each of the kids left for college. She was our walking, swimming, cooking and working buddy. One of my favorite things she did was greet the trick or treater. She was right at their height to say hello and if they had any candy on their faces she would take care of it for her. She is already tremendously missed. Please send love to @terridchervenka and JoAnn Digby who also lost their dogs last week. It is crazy how much these sweet animals become such a big part of our lives and now ours has a big whole in it. by @cherylbfirth
