Sadler & Whitehead’s public service abroad project. The sand on these stairs, leading up from the beach where we watercolored, made the ascent and descent treacherous. This morning we swept the sand (probably 300-400 pounds) and returned it to the beach. When we travel, we try to do a small project that leaves the place that we visit better than we found it. mostly a walking day today. after a boat taxi across the rence river, we did 16,000 steps along the dinard beach and shoreline. there is a fabulous walkway along the rocky coast. we ended up back in saint malo for fabulous afternoon light and sun getting low in the sky. there is nothing better than low light and clouds in a coastal setting. a demain. by @chesapeakeandcherrystone

another rainy day in saint-malo, spent in the cathedral where many visitors escape during wet weather. i found a good corner,as out of the way as i could be and spent two hours marveling that humans could agree to make such a space and then rebuild if after it was bombed in world war two. we often think of these spaces as static but if you sit and visit with them a while (and listen to your wife who reads about its history) you realize that it is as dynamic as the generations that built and maintained it for hundreds of years. what a pleasure to come to know this place. by @chesapeakeandcherrystone

a dark and rainy day in saint—malo. we took refuge in st. vincent cathedrale where it took a long time to see anything and never could make out the subtle details and colors. looking forward to appreciating the sun even more when it returns. by @chesapeakeandcherrystone

st. vincent’s cathedral from our bakery table. st vincent’s is the heart of saint-malo. we spent an hour here eating lunch, sketching and watercoloring. life is good. #mimisadler, #saint-malo by @chesapeakeandcherrystone

30 minutes on the beach in saint-malo. sitting on the rocks until the incoming tide chased us away. today the high tide was +37’, the low tide around 6’. it comes in quick. by @chesapeakeandcherrystone

i got the stoop framed this weekend as well as casings and latches in all of the small ventilation windows. stair treads next and then on to insulation and siding. i am thinking the siding will be striped. mimi thinks white and a light blue green. i am thinking greater contrast, white and charleston green or black (pine tar). willyt and burchell think definitely pink and purple. hazel would likely agree to any color as long as there was glitter in it. you know what ricky skaggs says, “opinions are like elbows, everybody has two of them”. weigh in if you would like. by @chesapeakeandcherrystone
