POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
You might know what I do, but you probably don’t know WHY I do it. Here’s the story behind my slow & restorative short term rental.

I don’t just have one job title. I’m in advanced paramedic, a part-time hotel worker, and the host behind Cheticamp Salt House on Cape Breton Island.

I work 2/3 time at my friend’s hotel, and I love it. It keeps me inside the rhythm of hospitality and it constantly feeds ideas from here to there and back again.

Cheticamp Salt House is my creative outlet, it’s how I afford to travel as a single woman. It’s where I blend everything I’ve learned from the ambulance, from the hotel, from my own craving for warmth & Nordic spa experiences. I am learning to slow down to create a stay that feels like exhaling.

I don’t just want you to say ā€œthe stay was niceā€œ. I want your shoulders to drop, I want you to sleep deeper than you expected, and I want you to leave feeling like you finally got to rest.

I’m a paramedic with a particular interest in nervous system regulation, especially as I get older. I’m a hotel employee who actually enjoys optimizing flow. I’m the owner of Cheticamp Salt House, obsessed with sauna and small details. I’m a constant learner of social media, storytelling, and sustainable living.

If you’re curious about a slower life, if you love sauna culture, slow stays, and the behind the scenes of boutique, hospitality, and Nova Scotia, I’d love to have you stick around.

Follow for stories from Cheticamp salt House, and shift life reflections.

Save this if you’re building your own ā€œmulti-ā€œ life

Saw @irishgirlinglasgow wearing this colour combo and immediately thought: yes, THIS is what winter needs.

Green sweater, blue button-up, long blue skirt. Cheerful without trying too hard. Layered without feeling complicated.

Here’s permission to wear what makes you feel good instead of what’s ā€œflattering.ā€ Permission to choose comfort and colour.

This outfit gives me joy.

It's time you booked a trip in the off-season just to be completely looked after.

People often ask what Cape Breton is like once the summer crowds have left. Honestly, it's some of the best times of the year! The trails are quiet, and you can finally take the time to relax, snuggled in the warmth of a winter getaway.

This year, for off-season getaways, I wanted to take every single chore off your plate. Wood-fired hot tubs and saunas are absolute magic in the cool months, and we'll make sure they're heated for you to ensure a relaxing stay.

And because nobody wants to cook or hunt for an open restaurant after a long drive, you'll arrive to a pan of baked pasta, dessert, and breakfast ready-made in the kitchen for your weekend.

All you have to do is show up, drop your bags, and soak in the warmth of a wood-fired hot tub, steamy sauna, and luxury stay.

The Off-Season Weekend Getaway Includes ($750):

Two quiet nights at The Salt House

Wood-fired hot tub and cedar sauna, pre-heated for you.

Ready-made baked pasta, dessert, and breakfast waiting in the fridge.

Send me a DM or visit www.cheticampsalthouse.com (link in bio) to claim a weekend this fall or winter.

I have the loveliest yoga teacher @call.me.ola that I’ve been practising with for a couple of years now, and I started my day with her. I’ve been struggling to understand how to get my arms into the eagle pose FOREVER, and finally took the time to try and do it step by little step yesterday, only to discover that it is actually impossible for me. Huh. Now I feel okay about doing what I can and progressing forward (I suspect tight shoulders and chubby arms are the limiting factors). One less thing to berate myself for underperforming at.

Not that 75 is old! Not at all! But the reality is that I think things might get harder as I get older. I have just discovered that what it is I want out of life is to absolutely gobble up as much as I can going forward.

And having a bit of anxiety lately about the future, I feel like looking at filling each day with joy and happiness is an excellent way to live my life.

- I’d like to lose some more weight.
- I need to fix my knee.
- I need to figure out a way to save, earn, and utilise more money.

But this really feels like it might be fun.

Join me? JOIN ME! Like and share. Let’s have fun together!

I feel like there are a lot of decisions to be made right now about career, about relationships, about health, and about life in general.

And I’m balancing making sure my finances are in order for retirement with enjoying everything I’ve earned right now.

And I have a knee that’s worrying me and limiting my ability to keep moving and be healthy, so there needs to be a workaround for that.

I’ve already pretty much given up on travel to the Far East because the flights are so gruelling. Perhaps they would be easier in first class, obviously.

The scary thing is that I’m starting to feel like I have 20 really remarkable years left before the chances of my energy waning are high.

The exciting thing is looking forward to all the things that I can do with those 20 years. I feel like it’s best foot forward right now.

I am a Cancer. Uh, as a star sign, not a diseased state; though who knows? Friends and home mean EVERYTHING to me. I never married, and I don’t have any kids. I had an unusually unromantic upbringing at the start and have cherished tradition and loyalty beyond many things.

But maybe it’s time to let go? Maybe it’s time to be more flexible? Maybe it’s time to live in the moment?

I have said for a couple of years now that I want to be more of a gardener and less of a gardener.

And sometimes when new friends come into your life, they look at your old friends and don’t understand the relationship. That can be illuminating.

I also have a tendency to be a collector of broken things. I love, love, love life, fun, experiences, beauty, and being startled by the absolute vastness of the world. And I really want to share that with other people. I really want everyone I love to get as much joy out of the world as I do. But maybe part of growing up is realising that everyone has their own way of navigating through life and that none are better than others.

What an idea! šŸ˜‚

And maybe part of growing up is also understanding that you don’t have to hold yourself in the same lane you’ve been driving in before.

I used to treat vacations like whirlwind tours, an opportunity to see and experience absolutely everything a new place had to offer.

But now that I've gotten older, I've realized that what a place has to offer can come to me. I don't need to rush around to see it. A lovely kind of tea, a new whiskey, witnessing the beauty of the rhythm of a day in a new place is enough.

And so I don't arrive home from vacation exhausted, but rather rested, rejuvenated, and inspired.

What about you? Have you found slowing down on vacation yet? taken in ChƩticamp, Nova Scotia by @cheticampsalthouse

A Thanksgiving weekend, from first place to last.

It rained almost the whole weekend, and honestly, we didn't mind. The hills around Cheticamp were glowing in every shade of rust and gold.

Back home, the kitchen was in use for many days, and some shallots for the salad got a little more charred than planned. Take two.

Then the best bit: laying the table, lighting the table tapers, and gathering. Plates full, then plates empty.

Slow breakfasts, rainy drives, and candlelit suppers. That's autumn and cake bread at its best.

What's the one dish your Thanksgiving table can't do without?

Because I did!

When we went to Scotland last year, I think she was fairly disappointed to discover that I'm very much rain-adverse. (Yes, I may be made of sugar. I'm definitely a principessa.)

This year, as an early birthday gift and surprise, I have bought a raincoat with the intention of braving the elements with her. Would you do the same?

This one is from @tilleyofficial, And while it isn't officially plus-sized, it is definitely roomy enough for us plus-sized gals. even better, it packs into its own little pouch, so it won't take up any of our precious carry-on suitcase space. taken in Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park by @cheticampsalthouse
