“MAKE I DIE KE?” (2026)
digital painting on procreate

artist statement:
i spent the first five years of my childhood in the Philippines, where i grew fond of the koi fish. i always loved watching them swim in their little ponds. i loved the fish so much i had a phase where i wouldn’t take selfies without using the koi fish filter on Snapchat. but it wasn’t until recently i learned the koi fish had a legend/myth that resonated with me.

the fish are symbols of resilience and ambition—in the waterfall legend they struggle against the current of a river for a century, trying to get to the top of the waterfall.

the last few months wrung me inside out, chewed me and spat me out, i’ve tried giving up so many times, but sometimes the mind wants to accept defeat and the body keeps moving—these two koi swimming in ying-yang formation represent this harmony and mutual support. by @chiakpa

Girl of the Hour, 2026

✧

while this piece does not necessarily have a singular meaning, it’s heavily inspired by the experience of being the manic pixie daydream girl: the quirky, edgy, whimsical prop used as some sort of character development/enlightenment for a male character and gotten rid of once her purpose has been achieved—from personal experience of course.

i originally titled this “spectacle” but it seemed reductive for some reason. this is also my first shot at what i want to believe is afrosurrealism. it’s not perfect! but it’s something innit by @chiakpa

Echefula, 2026

in English, the title means means “do not forget”, which is something i do a lot and harbour a lot of shame for from childhood sometimes.
