It’s #kidlitpostcard day. I wanted to share one of the illustrations I did on a project for Karon Johnson, Clinical Assistant Professor, at the UNC School of Social Work (@unc_ssw). It was such an honor to assist her in her work with the Satir Method and to see her commitment to mental health.

Meet Sera Latterell, an artist from North Carolina whose work is rooted in storytelling, identity, and the small wonders of everyday life. 🎨🩵

With degrees in biology and anthropology, she brings a thoughtful, layered perspective to her illustrations, which often explore folklore, psychology, family, and faith.

As a multiracial artist and mom of four, Sera is passionate about helping children see themselves reflected in the books they read. Her illustrations are vibrant, thoughtful, and full of heart — often inspired by the chaos, joy, and curiosity of her own family.

Outside of illustrating, you’ll find her meditating, gardening, reading children’s books, and learning new things — usually with a podcast in her ears and a sketchbook close by.

In my post before with the recipe, many knew it was bibimbap. The prepared dish is really beautiful and absolutely delicious.
