A total of 52 CTA buses are now operating with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement (ABLE) technology as a part of the City of Chicago's Smart Streets pilot program.
This expansion allows us to be better equipped to deter illegal parking in bus- and bike-only lanes and bus stops, directly addressing critical safety, accessibility, and bus service delay issues that impact tens of thousands of riders every day. by @chicagocta

On October 31, 1993, the Midway Orange Line opened, providing speedy service between downtown and Midway 🍊

The opening of the line completed direct 'L' connections between downtown and both major, Chicago airports, with fast, service (up to 55 mph across most of the route) and intermediate stops generally spaced a mile or so apart with bus terminals that make for easy connections. by @chicagocta

Investments in safer streets are investments in the long-term strength and vitality of Chicago's communities. Through the Smart Streets expansion in our Fair Share Budget, we are ensuring that the benefits of pedestrian improvements, bike lanes, and bus lanes are not impeded by vehicles illegally blocking the street so everyone who uses our streets can travel safely. by @chicagocta

Keeping the Loop moving takes skill, teamwork and dedication—and our crews brought all three to Tower 18 last weekend. Acting President Nora Leerhsen visited the work site to see their progress firsthand and personally thank employees for the demanding work that supports safe, reliable service.

At CTA’s largest rail junction, crews completed critical track and infrastructure repairs, including replacing a total of 400 feet of rail between Tower 18 and Merchandise Mart and between Tower 18 and Clark/Lake.

This effort brought together track workers, linemen, signal maintainers, ironworkers, painters, sheet metal workers, carpenters, communications workers, plumbers, bricklayers, service truck chauffeurs, track coordinators, signal coordinators and power coordinators. We’re grateful for the expertise and hard work each team contributed.

Tower 18 connects the elevated rail lines serving the Loop and is one of the busiest rail junctions in the nation. Maintaining this vital infrastructure helps keep trains moving and reduces the risk of future service disruptions.

To our employees: thank you for the care and commitment you bring to our system. And to our riders: thank you for your patience while we made these essential improvements. by @chicagocta

Ridership is up to pre-pandemic numbers on the CTA—over 1 million passengers daily—and violence is down. Safety remains my top priority as mayor and yes, that includes making sure our public transit is safe for all of us. by @chicagocta

I went on a scavenger hunt at the @illinoisrailwaymuseum to find some of the vehicles I illustrated for my collab with @chicagocta and @goodthingsvending!

We also have some exciting news- the pins and sticker sheets are available on the Good Things Vending website as of this morning, and the pins will be restocked in the Chicago stop vending machine tomorrow, Wednesday the 28th!

The first time the pins were stocked, they sold out in less than a day, so you have to act quick on them!

Again, so grateful for this opportunity to draw some silly little guys for the CTA all because of Good Things Vending and @krimsclubhouse.

And a special shout out to @rudylorejo for being my co-host in this video 🚊🚍 💕 by @chicagocta

CTA’s new Safe Ride Specialists are out on the system now! Their focus is on helping riders, de-escalating conflicts and supporting a safe, welcoming ride.

Two types of trained teams are working along designated portions of the Blue, Green and Red lines:

· Crisis Intervention Specialists connect riders experiencing homelessness, mental health crises or substance use disorders with housing, treatment and social services.

· Community Violence Intervention Specialists build relationships with youth and young adults and help de-escalate potential conflicts.

The new program adds another layer to CTA’s safety approach, complementing Chicago Police Department and Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers and K-9 security guards, while working alongside frontline CTA staff.

Acting President Nora Leerhsen recently joined the teams to welcome the teams and to see their work firsthand.
