🏆 Celebrating Red Theater, recipient of the 2026 Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theatre Award!

At the heart of Red Theater is a simple but powerful mission: make theater by putting people first.

Guided by radical transparency, community care, and meaningful experience, Red Theater is reimagining how theatre is created, shared, and experienced. The company believes theatre should be accessible to anyone who wants to engage with it, and that the process of making art should value compassion just as much as passion.

By challenging traditional barriers, prioritizing the people behind the work, and creating meaningful experiences for artists and audiences alike, Red Theater is helping shape a more welcoming and people-centered theatre community.

The Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theatre Award, established in 2007, supports young Chicago theatre companies that demonstrate artistic excellence, promise, and responsible business practices. Red Theater will receive a $5,000 award in recognition of its work and potential.

We're proud to celebrate Red Theater and its commitment to building a theatre community where people come first and everyone has a place.

Congratulations, Red Theater! 👏

🏆 Celebrating Mia Park, 2026 Broadway In Chicago Backstage Champion Award recipient!

The League of Chicago Theatres is proud to honor Mia Park with the Broadway In Chicago Backstage Champion Award, recognizing her extraordinary contributions to Chicago’s theatre community and her commitment to creating space for artists whose stories deserve to be seen and heard.

A Korean American actor, cultural producer, educator, and hospice nurse, Mia has spent more than two decades building platforms for Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Desi American artists across Chicago.

As the founder and artistic director of Asian American Arts Chicago, formerly APIDA Arts, Mia has championed cultural storytelling through festivals, theatre productions, community programming, and artist development. She co-founded A-Squared Theatre Workshop and founded Our Perspective: Asian American Plays, bringing local playwrights’ work to stages at Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, and Victory Gardens.

Her impact extends well beyond the stage. From producing national arts conferences and community festivals to teaching at The Theatre School at DePaul University and The Second City, Mia has helped open doors, build connections, and create opportunities for generations of artists.

Much of her work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt throughout Chicago’s cultural landscape. Through her leadership, advocacy, and dedication to representation, Mia continues to make Chicago theatre more inclusive and reflective of the communities it serves.

We’re proud to shine a spotlight on someone who has spent her career helping others find theirs. Congratulations, Mia! 👏
