Twenty years ago, I arrived in Canada as an international student, carrying nothing but a suitcase, a dream, and the quiet courage to begin again.

I did not know then how much this beautiful country Canada would shape me — how many times I would be tested, humbled, rebuilt, and expanded.

Twenty years later, to be recognized among British Columbia’s outstanding business leaders feels deeply meaningful. It is more than an honour. It is a reflection of every sacrifice, every uncertain step, every person who believed in me before the world had a reason to.

This journey was never walked alone. I carry with me the kindness of mentors, the support of friends, the trust of partners, and the grace of every noble soul who opened a door, offered guidance, or stood beside me when the path was unclear.

And still, I feel this is only the beginning.

Twenty years from now, I hope to have fulfilled my highest calling — to build something meaningful, to serve something greater than myself, and to live a life that carries love, courage, and true value into the world.

With a grateful heart, I honour the road behind me.

With a brave heart, I step into the chapter ahead.

As a Hangzhou native and Chief Advisor of @canaturperu PERÚ for China and Canada institutional affairs, it was deeply meaningful to bring the story of my hometown to Peru through “Living Poetry, AI Hangzhou.” @hangzhou_china

From Cusco to Lima, we shared Hangzhou’s World Heritage sites, tea culture, silk, Song Dynasty aesthetics, digital economy, and smart tourism with Peru’s tourism leaders, institutions, travel operators, and media. What moved me most was the excitement in the room — the feeling that Hangzhou and Peru are not just learning about each other, but beginning to build something real together.

My heartfelt thanks to Li Daoqiao, Deputy Director of Hangzhou Foreign Affairs Office; Chen Bin, Director of International Exchange and Promotion, Hangzhou Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism Bureau; Zhang Zhihong, Deputy Director of Yuhang Culture, Radio, TV, Tourism and Sports Bureau; and Zhu Jianan, Deputy General Manager of China International Travel Service Zhejiang.

Deep appreciation to Carlos González @carlosrgonzalezp, President of the Cusco Tourism Association; José Fernando Santoyo Vargas, President of the Cusco Chamber of Commerce; José David Hurtado-Fudinaga, representative of ODE Cusco; Maritza Rosa Candia, Director of the Cusco Culture Office; Jorge Peña Velarde, President of the Cusco Hotel Association; Cristian Javier Lopez Zereceda, President of COLITUR; Rossie Meza Azurin, President of PROGATUR; Rogers Valencia Espinoza, President of INCUSE; Sebastian Segovia, President of the Cusco Convention Bureau; Christian Arteaga @christian.arteaga.innova, UN Tourism spokesperson and affiliated member; and Joe Koechlin, President of CANATUR PERÚ and Founder of Inkaterra @inkaterrahotels .

From West Lake to Machu Picchu, from Liangzhu to the Andes, this journey reminded me why I do what I do: to turn cultural connection into real projects, real friendship, and real bridges between people.

From my first visit to Peru in March 2024, I felt a deeper bridge could be built between Peru and China — through culture, tourism, heritage, and people-to-people connection.

In November 2024, during APEC in Lima, I had the opportunity to connect in person with Peru’s national leaders and tourism sector. On December 23, 2024, I began engaging around the possibility of a friendly exchange relationship between Hangzhou and Cusco. Through follow-up visits and meetings with Hangzhou’s Foreign Affairs Office and tourism authorities in 2025 and early 2026, the idea gradually moved from vision to action.

In May 2026, during the 55th anniversary of Peru–China diplomatic relations, this journey reached a meaningful milestone: Hangzhou and Cusco signed an MOU on friendly relations and exchanges — connecting two ancient cultural cities and two World Heritage destinations.

The MOU opens future cooperation in culture, tourism, heritage protection, education, digital economy, smart city development, trade, and sustainable development, while laying the foundation for deeper city-to-city friendship and future sister-city relations.

As someone born in Hangzhou and deeply connected with Peru through CANATUR, this milestone is profoundly personal. It took passion, persistence, trust, and many result-oriented conversations to help bring this moment into reality.

My heartfelt thanks to Joe Koechlin, President of CANATUR @canaturperu and Founder of Inkaterra @inkaterrahotels; Mayor Luis Pantoja Calvo of Cusco; Christian Arteaga @christian.arteaga.innova, UN Tourism spokesperson and affiliated member; and my dear friend Karen Nin at the Municipality of Cusco.

Proud, grateful, and deeply moved to witness this new bridge between Hangzhou and Cusco come to life. May this friendship continue to grow — from West Lake to the Andes, from Liangzhu to Machu Picchu. 💛 taken in Cusco, Peru by @chichibeing

55 years of Peru–China friendship — and somehow, this chapter has become very personal to me. 🇵🇪❤️🇨🇳

What started as an idea in my mind — what if we could bring a piece of Peru to my hometown, Hangzhou? — is now becoming real.

I initiated the Peru Pavilion at the 5th Global Digital Trade Expo, in partnership with the wonderful Inkaterra team, and watching it grow from conversations, sketches and imagination into a real space has been incredibly special.

This Pavilion is our way of sharing the Peru I have come to love — its ancient civilizations, breathtaking biodiversity, craftsmanship, people, natural wealth and endless possibilities.

I’m so grateful to have these incredible partners along this journey:

CANATUR @canaturperu — representing the vision and strength of Peruvian tourism.
Inkaterra @inkaterrahotels — pioneering conservation and sustainable travel for over five decades.
Sol Alpaca @solalpacaperu — carrying Peru’s extraordinary textile heritage into contemporary design.
LATAM Peru @latamairlines_peru — connecting Peru with the world.
Sageus @sageuscollective — building bridges between Peru and China through strategy, partnerships and opportunity.

For me, this is much more than an exhibition. It is about building a bridge between two places that have both become deeply woven into my life.

From concept to reality and this is only the beginning.

There is still so much more I dream of building for Peru in China. 🇵🇪✨🇨🇳 taken in Hangzhou, China by @chichibeing

More than twenty years ago, I came to Canada from China. Over time, Canada became much more than the country where I live. It became home.

I chose Canada not only for opportunity, but for the values it represents: freedom, rule of law, equality, human dignity, compassion, and a belief in peace.

In a moment when Canada is being asked to think more deeply about its sovereignty and its place in the world, I find myself thinking about my own journey.

Canada gave me the freedom and safety to build a life here, to remain connected to China and where I come from, and from this home, to explore the world — building friendships and relationships across Asia, North America, South America and beyond.

Perhaps that is why I see independence not as isolation, but as freedom with strong roots.

True independence means knowing who you are while remaining open to others. It means protecting your interests without losing respect for theirs. It means being able to agree to disagree, to diversify our friendships and partnerships, and to build enough trust that differences do not have to become divisions.

Canada has extraordinary resources, innovation, Indigenous knowledge, multicultural talent and strong institutions. But perhaps our greatest strength is something quieter: our ability to create a home where people from very different places can still belong to something shared.

Looking at my mom beneath the Canadian flag, I think about what home really means.

Home is where the values you believe in become the values you are willing to stand for.

I hope Canada remains confident without becoming closed, independent without becoming isolated, and strong without losing its humanity.

The world does not always need the loudest voice.

Sometimes, it needs a trusted one.

A confident Canada. An open Canada.

Most encounters in life happen only once.

Only with time do we come to understand what it truly means to cherish someone: some people, once gone, may never cross our path again in this lifetime. And just as the person we once were can never fully return, the people we meet are, in some way, mirrors of who we were in that particular moment of our lives. People move on, relationships change, and the version of ourselves that existed beside them quietly becomes part of the past.

It is in moments like this that I begin to understand the meaning of ichigo ichie — one time, one meeting. Every encounter may be the only one of its kind we are ever given.

So be sincere. Cherish deeply.

Cherish the people before you, and cherish the person you are in this very moment.

by @chichibeing

Honoured to be invited by H.E. Carlos Raúl Vásquez Corrales, Ambassador of Peru to China, to attend the opening of On Top of the World Tree: Ancient Civilizations of the Americas at the Shanghai Museum, together with José Koechlin, Founder and CEO of Inkaterra.

The exhibition’s theme is deeply meaningful. Like a great tree, civilizations are rooted in the past, shaped by the present, and continuously reaching toward the future. Through ancient art and heritage, it reveals how different cultures can share universal ideas about nature, humanity, and our place in the world.

Its opening is especially significant as Peru and China celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Following the tourism cooperation initiated during the Hangzhou delegation’s visit to Cusco in May, we are also exploring the possibility of establishing a Peru Pavilion in Hangzhou - a platform to share Peru’s heritage, biodiversity, tourism, and future opportunities.

As the exhibition beautifully reminds us: “The world resembles a tree, with its roots plunging deep into the past, its branches upholding the present.”

Perhaps this is how civilizations and true friendships endure: rooted in history, strengthened by trust, and always growing toward a shared future.
