David Duffield, Cornell's biggest ever donor, is being asked by 19.8k members of our community to pause his $371.5 million pledge until Cornell faces an independent investigation into how it handled an alleged gang rape at its Chi Phi fraternity house.⁠

Governor Kathy Hochul has vowed to close New York’s voluntary intoxication loophole, the law prosecutors pointed to when they declined charges in the Cornell fraternity case.

Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas projects could still go ahead, even after a court ruled their approvals unlawful.⁠
⁠
The UK government is reassessing both projects after Scotland’s Court of Session found that emissions from burning the extracted oil and gas had not been properly considered.⁠
⁠
The decision is still pending. Tell the UK government to reject Rosebank and Jackdaw before ministers make the final call. It takes two minutes.⁠

During New York Climate Weak, I brought @seaspiracy into the room with world leaders, scientists, Dr. Sylvia Earle, and the CEO of AkerBiomarine. His company catches the majority of all Antarctic krill.

The question on the table was simple: why does krill fishing exist?

What you need to know:
→ Norway has pushed to nearly double the krill catch limit, even though current limits are destroying populations.
→ CCAMLR is the limited group of governments that decides Antarctica’s future, and this October they meet to vote on whether krill fishing gets a green light to DOUBLE and for a a contested marine protected area. The industry supports it because it allows them to double their catch. The protected area wouldn’t need to exist if we stopped fishing for krill. We’re worried it becomes a “paper park”: protected on paper while more krill gets taken.

Don’t let the MPA fight distract us. The goal is to end krill fishing. We banned the commercial whale trade. We banned CFCs. Now it’s time to ban the krill market. It’s entirely unnecessary for omega-3 supplements with great alternatives.
