Prime Minister Carney has made it clear that he's about speed. But instead of pumping the brakes to give the Bulldoze Nature Bill the proper study it deserves,

Carney turned to a rare parliamentary tool , not used since the Harper era, to fast-track the study of Bill C-39.

Proper parliamentary and public scrutiny cannot be left on the side of the road.

ICYMI: Bill C-39 could expand undemocratic executive powers to approve major projects and gut environmental assessments, protections for species at risk, fisheries and labour rights.

Parliament’s existing standing committees already have expertise in these areas and are better equipped to hear directly from independent experts, Indigenous representatives and affected communities than the special Legislative committee that's been struck to study the bill.

Help prevent this unprecedented bill from moving forward. Tell your MP to vote against it today via link in bio.

The bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (S. 5653) is being pitched as permitting reform—but buried in the bill are provisions that could fast-track offshore drilling and deep-sea mining while making it much harder to challenge harmful projects.

🌊 It could lock in permits even when environmental reviews are flawed or new science reveals serious risks.
🐋 It weakens protections for endangered species and marine wildlife.
⚖️ It makes it harder for communities, Tribes, and environmental advocates to challenge projects in court.

We need more clean energy and better infrastructure. But that cannot come at the expense of our ocean, coastal communities, and the environmental safeguards that protect us all.

📣 TAKE ACTION:
📞 Call your senators and representative and urge them to oppose S. 5653.
✉️ Ask Senators Whitehouse, Heinrich, and Schumer to keep this bill out of the lame-duck session.

Busch Gardens has a lot of problems with its elephants. There's one it could easily end tomorrow.

All summer, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus the Fourth of July, the park set off fireworks during the finale of its drone show. Elephants communicate in rumbles too low for us to hear, and they pick up vibrations through the ground from miles away. In the wild, they can run from a threat. These elephants can’t.

In 2022, an elephant named Rosie collapsed during a fireworks show and didn’t get up for five hours. She never fully recovered, and was euthanized two years later. Earlier this summer, another elephant named Carina died there. Now two more senior elephants, Schottzie and Jati, have been moved into the same enclosure.

This is a choice, and Busch Gardens can make it. Take just a minute to demand its new president — the fifth in just three years — put an immediate end to fireworks at Busch Gardens Tampa in our new @chilli.app actions.

The biodiversity of three island nations is under attack by one common threat: Rosewood Hotels ‼️

For too long, @rosewoodhotels have bulldozed island wildlife across the globe, slapped a 5* luxury resort on top of it, faked an eco-initiative and called it “sustainable luxury”.

The losses have been unimaginable.
Flattened wildlife, dead animals, destroyed coastlines.

🇸🇨 They’re doing it in Seychelles, right next to a vulnerable UNESCO World Heritage site. A national investigation found the development to be risking the lives of 400+ endemic species.
🇧🇸 They’re planning to do it in The Bahamas, removing acres of coral reef, seagrass and protected trees. The development’s environmental approval is before The Bahamas Supreme Court.
🇵🇷 They’re planning to do it in Puerto Rico, as part of a collaborative $2 billion development in a wildlife protected area, amid a severe water crisis for Puerto Ricans.

When will it end?! There must be accountability for the destruction and the greenwashing that @rosewoodhotels commits.

One thing I didn’t get to include in this video: there were more floods that wrecked villages in the central Gurkha District of Nepal just last week, on 11 October. So everything I mentioned, plus more damage.

While we’re a pretty emotional species we tend to quantify a lot of information to help us understand the scale of things. Hopefully, but putting some numbers to this awful catastrophe, it helps to depict the debt-disaster loop and why we simply cannot let it continue.

We’ve already stepped into the next massive weather event season, a natural El Niño super-sized by human-caused climate change. We need a more sustainable way of dealing with crises. Head to the Chilli link in my bio to email people who can make a difference to how climate finance is done.

Rosewood Hotels released their first “sustainability report” this year. It didn’t include this. ‼️

Bulldozed land. Dead animals. Coastal dredging. Oil spills. That’s only a few of the atrocities that Rosewood Hotels have caused in Seychelles and The Bahamas.

And not just here, they’re involved in a proposed $2 billion development in a protected area of Puerto Rico. They’re attempting to kick people out of their homes in Barbuda.

It’s a pattern: flatten land, put a million-dollar development on top, fake some eco-initiatives and call it “sustainable luxury”. 💰

Nobody’s falling for your lies anymore @rosewoodhotels. We see the truth.

‼️🚨 The Al-Khayyat brothers are bulldozing Seychelles wildlife to build a 6* luxury @rosewoodhotels resort….but that’s not all it is. It’s a strategic positioning in a very remote and mostly uninhabited part of the Indian Ocean. And they’re not just doing it in Seychelles, but in Albania too.

In a post-oil era, it’s the newest way of securing advantageous global positioning - and it often goes under the radar. Tristan Coloma speaks on @france24 about what this means, full interview at the link in our bio. 🔗

And where do @unesco fall into this? In Seychelles, the construction site is right next to World Heritage site, Aldabra Atoll, with 400 species found nowhere else in the world! But we can’t be surprised by UNESCO’s silence, says Tristan Coloma. Qatar funds UNESCO and therefore ultimately controls it.
