A project from a while ago -

“Down Below” addresses urban infrastructures that we are increasingly dependant on, yet they are decreasingly visible. Cooling systems have evolved in complexity, becoming huge duct networks interconnecting buildings throughout a city, hidden underground or behind walls.

The RATP - Paris’s public transport company - have even acquired multiple apartment buildings throughout Paris and altered their function to serve as façades disguising the industrial ductwork of their metro system.

Based on this case study, I have taken inspiration from the shape of an archetypical Haussmanian window frame, using the materials of cooling systems, creating a dialogue between the disconnected form and function of these buildings. taken in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant by @chloecouasnon

“We are quite removed from the inflatable industry in general, most of what exists being highly technical and used for specialized industry. We want to make it more accessible, bringing high quality inflatable design to the everyday scale”

„By limiting what is visible from the outside in, the design heightens attention to the other senses, which are so inherent to a restaurant experience. The combination of sounds and smells travelling from a kitchen can be far more indicative of what happens within than appearance alone.“

Chloe Couasnon’s „Through the Kitchen“ reimagines the restaurant experience, playing with transparency between guests and staff. A rotating partition turns the kitchen into a choreographed interplay of sounds, smells, and movement.

I am happy to be showcasing my project Through The Kitchen at the @designacademyeindhoven graduation show from 19-27th of October for @dutchdesignweek 🩶

Through the Kitchen proposes a new type of restaurant space, shifting the perspective from the customer to the staff. It challenges the balance between transparency and privacy. The partition-to-shelving system allows staff to make specific choices according to their needs while giving customers insight into aspects of their routines. The design emphasises what is left visible, whether the choreography of silhouettes or the precise execution of hands at work. taken in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant by @chloecouasnon
