I’ve been encouraged to post some of my artwork, so…. here’s the first of a series I call Penumbrae. I have memories of dappled light from childhood. I like its quality of both-and: opposites co-existing, intermingling and playing together.

Penumbrae 1
Acrylic on canvas, 48x24
Available as an art print in various sizes, also as a tote, mug, puzzle, etc.

(The original work has been purchased.)

La Conner #8, one in an expressionistic series created in La Connor, WA. Deep indigo and black give the piece weight while arcs of pale and sudden sparks of orange and yellow push everything into motion; cool teals and muted purples sit in the shadows and steady the composition. I like that it feels both energetic and contained, a fragment that keeps asking for a second look.

Portal

Countless portals exist. Here's one. If you follow it, where do you imagine the spiral might take you?

I made a small piece in deep blue with a curved strip of gold and red. The blue moves toward a lighter area in the upper left while a narrow ribbon of coral and ochre along the right edge guides the eye downward. Tiny white flecks puncture the blue near center-left and add a crisp, bright note. There’s a quiet tension between the cool expanse and the warm band, calm on one side and a subtle push on the other. Which part draws you in first? #breckenridge #christopherpilafian #abstractart #blueart by @chrilaf

Sebastian meets the eye with a steady gaze yet his expression could be saying more than one thing. Interest, invitation, caution, warning. I’m intrigued by the ambiguity.
