I used to think I was sleeping through church…
Now I wonder if I was actually growing up in it.
The prayers.
The hymns.
The hours we were too young to understand.
I definitely didn’t understand all of it as a child. I’m pretty sure half the time I was just trying to stay awake 😂.
But somehow, it became part of me.
And now, watching my child sleep through Tasbeha while the Midnight Praises continue around him… I get it.
Maybe our children don’t have to understand everything yet.
Maybe sometimes our job is simply to bring them. ❤️
One day, they may realize that while they were growing up in the Church, the Church was growing in them too.

What is something from your faith or childhood that you didn’t understand then, but means everything to you now??

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀, I was simply doing what I loved most, 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 as a clinical dietitian.

👋🏼 𝗛𝗶, 𝗜'𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹, 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗦𝗥 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Throughout my career, I found myself constantly searching for supplements that truly reflected the actual needs of my patients, myself, and my loved ones.

Would this be completely normal in your church… or would the side-eyes start immediately? 👀

I think my child is getting a little too comfortable at church. 🤍

But maybe that’s exactly what I want.

I want him to grow up knowing that church isn’t just somewhere we go. It’s his village.

The people around him have watched him grow. They know him. They love him. And when he gets tired, apparently he knows he can bring his blanket, find his little spot and make himself at home.

No fuss. No embarrassment. No feeling like he has to be anything other than a child.

And there’s something really beautiful about raising a child in a community where he feels that safe and that comfortable.

Because one day he’ll be too big to lie down in the middle of the aisle with his blanket.
But I hope he’s never too big to walk into church and know he’s home. ❤️

Now I need to know about YOUR village:
Would everyone just step around him? Someone cover him with another blanket? Or are we getting the

Hard work is not optional. The shape it takes may change, but the responsibility doesn't. ❤️

Some days it looks like long hours behind four walls. Other days, it looks like this, hours on the road 🚗, driving where I need to be because the work still needs to get done.

But the older I get, the more I think about work differently.

I think about what I've been entrusted with. 🙏🏼

The people who depend on me. My profession as a 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻.. The clinicians who depend on this company..The facilities that trust us.. And the residents who ultimately need us to show up.....

And yes, the company I have worked so hard to build and keep moving forward.

There is a weight that comes with all of that. A responsibility to provide, to lead well, to stay afloat, to make the right decisions, to have patience when things don't go as planned, and to keep going when the easier choice would be not to.

I pray for this company often. 🙏🏼 Not simply for its success, but for the wisdom to take the right paths, to do right by people, and to be a good steward of what I've been entrusted with.

I don't always get everything right. But I really, really try. ❤️

So whether the work requires another long day behind four walls or another few hours on the road, the answer is the same.

Hard work is not optional when you're carrying something that matters.

When people told us, "Just wait... he'll be watching TV soon enough," they were right.

He does watch TV.

We simply chose to wait until he was almost three. And when we introduced screen time, we wanted it to be intentional.

We watch together. We pause. We ask questions. We talk about the story, what's real and what's pretend, and what we can learn from it. We want screen time to be something we experience together, not something that simply keeps him occupied.

For us, this isn't just about limiting screen time or choosing slower-paced shows. It's about choosing stories that don't overwhelm his mind, but nurture his imagination. Stories that teach kindness, patience, curiosity, and empathy. Stories that connect him to his roots, his language, and a piece of the childhood I was lucky enough to have

It's about being intentional with the childhood influences that help shape his values, imagination, character, and sense of identity.

It's about protecting his childhood innocence!

Research has raised important questions about excessive screen exposure in early childhood and its association with aspects of brain development, language, attention, and executive function. While no parent can control everything, we want to be thoughtful about the choices we can make.

I also want him to grow up with stories that have heart. Stories that connect him to his language, his heritage, and a piece of the childhood I was fortunate enough to experience myself.

Maybe one day he'll watch every modern cartoon. But while I have the opportunity to choose, I'll choose slower stories, meaningful conversations, and moments we share together.

Today, that looks like Bakkar. ❤️

Every family finds its own way. This is simply the childhood we're trying to create for our son.
