Would this be completely normal in your church… or would the side-eyes start immediately? 👀

I think my child is getting a little too comfortable at church. 🤍

But maybe that’s exactly what I want.

I want him to grow up knowing that church isn’t just somewhere we go. It’s his village.

The people around him have watched him grow. They know him. They love him. And when he gets tired, apparently he knows he can bring his blanket, find his little spot and make himself at home.

No fuss. No embarrassment. No feeling like he has to be anything other than a child.

And there’s something really beautiful about raising a child in a community where he feels that safe and that comfortable.

Because one day he’ll be too big to lie down in the middle of the aisle with his blanket.
But I hope he’s never too big to walk into church and know he’s home. ❤️

Now I need to know about YOUR village:
Would everyone just step around him? Someone cover him with another blanket? Or are we getting the

Would this be completely normal in your church... or absolutely not and we are getting the side-eye? 👀

At my church there is a little play area in the back of the sanctuary with a small pew and toys and coloring books for little ones who don’t go to the nursery or kids’ class. Kids do need to learn to sit still and be quiet but when they’re still pretty young, it’s unrealistic to expect them not to get bored.

This is a beautiful thing. I would admonish anyone who is criticizing this. He's still a very young child. We should be happy he is in church, listening to God's word, and comfortable and safe enough to sleep. I have a special needs son and the worry about him not being accepted in a congregation had kept our family out of church, sadly. Because the judgmental, sanctimonious people like the people in the comments make it difficult. Remember who Jesus was, HOW he was, and who he surrounded himself with. Anyone criticizing this should truly examine their heart.

This is so sweet. I wished protestant churches were more gracious to tired kids.

I don't mind the child but I do mind people on their phones.

The priest at the parish I go to is incredibly nice towards children. Sometimes kids will run up to him while he gives his sermon and he gets angry at the parents when they try to grab them lol.

So you let your kid put his face in the mat floor everyone walks in? They didn't stop it but I can assure you they definitely judged you

Yes, in our church there's a place where children are laid when they sleep during service

Don’t be embarrassed ever! My mom would take her 3 kids ( 2 girls and 1 boy) to Adoration that would be open all night and we each brought a pillow and we would fall asleep on the pews. To this day, ppl from our church remember that and found it to be cute.

As a young child at late masses or "very early" masses I (and siblings) used to fall asleep under the pew, as did other children

Children belong in church and I love to hear their laughter, chatter and prayers. A bit of crying doesn't bother me at all. However, a parent feeling entitled to literally lay their child on the floor with a blanket - and in the middle of the exit - is not something I've ever imagined seeing. Noisy children are expected at Mass but an increasing number of parents have this view of "whatever is necessary" without regard for the other parishioners.
