Proud to work with the @camhfoundation in support of the “No One Left Behind” campaign.

Both suicide and addiction have had a profound effect on my life, where I lost everything that meant anything to me. However, finding meaning in the suffering has brought me the most beautiful experiences of my life that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

12 years ago today, after coming out of a near decade long opioid addiction, I completed my first ride across Canada while filming a documentary about the impacts of the opioid crisis across the country. It was an adventure that changed my life forever.

I had no idea what or if anything would come from it, but I believed in what I was doing enough that I sold my home to fund the ride and film. Life has continued to become more fulfilling ever since and I wouldn’t trade the amazing experiences I’ve had the privilege of having for the world.

Thank you so much to the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership at the Ivey Business School at Western University for the opportunity to be the keynote speaker for this year’s HBA Leadership Day.

I’m exceptionally grateful for the invitation to share my journey and leadership lessons with their honours students as they become our future leaders, and for the chance to meet extraordinary leaders who shared their experiences as case studies.

I also would like to give a special thank you to Gerard Seijts and Kimberley Young Milani for the invitation.

One year ago today I was watching this sunset over the Pacific Ocean in Bali, Indonesia. It turned out to be a very significant moment in my life.

Over the last nearly 12 years, I always felt like I was making up for lost time since the entirety of my 20’s was just struggling to survive through crippling depression and opioid addiction. Seconds after I stopped filming and stood there taking in the beauty of the sunset, I thought to myself that never in a million years when I was dreaming of riding a bike across Canada to raise awareness for mental health and addiction did I ever think it would lead to having the privilege of travelling the world doing what I love and working with the World Health Organization and the United Nations.

It was the first time in my life where I felt content with the life I’ve lived and made up for the many years I lost. I’m exceptionally lucky to be where I am at and I’m incredibly grateful to people along the way that helped get me here. taken in Bali, Indonesia by @chriscull

After six years and writing 65,176 words, I am proud to say book manuscript is complete!

Writing my story with the good, the bad and the ugly in such detail, as well as sharing the many life lessons that helped get me to where I am today, is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Looking back at the process, I had to grow as a person to this point to be at peace with sharing the darkest moments of my life that I’ve never been comfortable sharing publicly and finish the book in a way that I could be proud of.
