This was a final project for a 12 week furniture making intensive at @woodschoolmaine from a few years back. I wanted to cram as many new woodworking techniques as I could into one small project. It’s got a lot going on:

I’m finally starting to spend more time back in my studio and I can’t wait to start building some of the work I’ve been dreaming up this last year. Mizu Lee

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been over a week since our lives came to a standstill when @sophia_roe brought you into this world. We’ve been getting lost in a bubble of love with you ever since.

Witnessing your mama go through all that she did for the last year to get us here: laying around gazing at your gorgeous face all day- has been the most moving, awe inspiring experience. There is truly nothing that woman wouldn’t do for you and for our family. She spent the final 14 hours of that long journey laboring here in our home, determined to bring you into our lives naturally and to feel every moment of it. The agony she endured and subsequent relief and joy of your safe arrival was transformative, and not only for her; neither of us will ever be the same. I won’t forget what she went through and the courage and endurance it took to do it. Our hearts are woven together now through you. Your mama is a force to be reckoned with and we are so so lucky to have her.

Resuming normal life seems impossible now that you’re here, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. We’re still in this love bubble and we’ll ride it as long as we can 🫧

For the foreseeable future it’s nothing but smiles, cries, hiccups, sneezes, naps, burp cloths, diapers and an endless stream of annoyingly cute photos and videos in this house.

Forgive us if we are slow to respond- we’re in our own world right now.

Happy Mother’s Day to the hardest working, most dedicated, creative, fun, bad ass stunner I get the privilege of spending the rest of my life with. It is such a pleasure for me to watch this day transform into something new and beautiful and celebratory for you. I can’t wait to witness the mother that you become and to get to fall in love with that version of you all over again. The time and care and thoughtfulness that you already have for our daughter and our family and future is evident in everything you do these days and it inspires me to try to be my best self for us too. Our daughter is so lucky to be getting a mama like you.

We were on our way home from our engagement in Hawaii when Soph woke up to head to the airport with a pang of nausea and I snapped the second and third photos above to capture the moment when I first thought she might be pregnant. Later that night when we arrived at home to nyc, before I could catch my breath from carrying our suitcases up all the stairs to our apartment, she had casually pulled out a pregnancy test. She was pretty sure she wasn’t pregnant, she had just had a meltdown days before about feeling like she might not be able to get pregnant (we’d been trying for some time already). Moments later we were staring at two bold lines on the test strip and that was what my dad would have called a Pivot Point in our lives.

The next day was Sophia’s birthday, and Election Day and we were only one week into being engaged, thank god I asked her when I did! That was the most life changing day- so many things all happened at once. Emotional overload.

The following months have been a blur of excitement and joy and caution as we hoped for a healthy happy baby. So far so good, but we still have a ways to go! We are so happy to finally share the news with the world and what a ludicrous way to get to do it with @sophia_roe’s gorgeous belly on a full page ad in the Sunday @nytimes. We are getting flooded with love and support and taking the day to just bask in it. We are pinching ourselves and so so thankful and privileged.

Baby, I love you forever and I am so proud of you. You inspire me and so many. Thank you for making this baby for us. You are going to be the best Mama. by @chriscush
