Greenland.

I always assumed my first time to Greenland would involve clicking into skis at some point on the journey.

Instead I clicked into pedals (thousands of times), because one must get on and off their bike that many times to ride here, all to bike across Greenland’s longest continuous stretch of land not covered by its magnificent icecap.

The Arctic Circle Track, basically a very unmaintained 4x4 trail, runs east from the coastal town of Sisimiut into just under 100 miles of pure Greenlandic wilderness. Traveling entirely above the Arctic Circle, the route leads Kangerlussuaq, where a brief reprieve of pavement, a tinge of civilization and hot food await. From here, a well-maintained gravel road continues on once more to Point 660. Then the road abruptly ends, conceding to 500 miles of ice.

Bikepacking this route demands so much from you. What it takes from you is returned in the form of wisdom, friendship, and a rapidly growing list of new Arctic adventures to ponder.

Images here are from the first day and next morning of our journey, which more or less involved us launching into the Greenlandic weather void of sideways rain, stout wind gusts, and massive, muddy hike-a-bike sections.

In total, @brodyleven @chrisburkard @joshreids and I averaged about 4 miles an hour on our first day as we entered the land of endless mud bogs and fish filled creek crossings, all under a landscape that keep us constantly in awe.

A soecial thanks to @hyperlite_mountain_gear @ibexwool @revelbikes @julboeyewearna who all helped in keeping us dialed. And to Stein, a local who became a fast friend to us all. taken in Sisimiut by @chrismshane

Moments in frame. Finally put together a show reel from 2025, plus some of my favorite frames over the years.

What started out as a fun new skill to learn alongside my photography career in 2020 has turned into a full on job lugging video cameras from the ends of Earth to right in front of every kind of human one could imagine: full of depth, love, and humanity.

As the demand for creative mediums of photo and video ebb and flow, humans will always crave connection to other humans. Story, film, photo, aren’t going anywhere, they’re just evolving as they always have. Looking forward to all the creative challenges already in the works for 2026. by @chrismshane

19 miles of ice, wind, and grit across New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

In 1980, Laura Waterman and friends completed the first female winter Presidential Traverse, marking a pivotal moment for women in the mountains.

Told through Laura’s own words and portrayed by athlete @hilarymccloy, The First Traverse, a short film by POW Creative Alliance member @chrismshane, honors the women who go anyway, the mountains that shape us, and the winter adventures that leave their mark.

With ten refrozen toes and perpetually soaked shoes, unable to properly dry with temps lingering in the 30s, we dredged on through endless mud bogs and mountain creeks.

Every passing hour sent us deeper into the empty mountainous expanse of Greenland, the only sign of humans existing found in the little red huts or barely visible ATV track we followed.

On the third day inland, it finally dawned on me that I’d not heard a man-made machine in three days. Even in the north woods of Maine the roar of international flight’s jet engines can be heard or seen on a daily basis. Here though, just the creak of our fast eroding bottom brackets and drivetrains reminded us of our own reliance on modern-day technology to propel us forward.

Caught in a snow squall, @brodyleven and I found ourselves in cake batter like mud, a dry layer of sand that coagulated to the wet, thick snowflakes that seemed to create a new genre of mud, one that clogged both our drivetrains and chains.

While we stopped to do some serious bike maintenance on Brody’s bike, I found this moment to be the most memorable of our journey. We were far away from civilization, stuck in shitty weather in an immensely beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime place. To access this place required both teamwork and self-reliance and it’s what we came for. Knowing full well might have to give a little more of ourselves than we were planning to.

So with fingers and toes refreezing once again while we got a bike back in working order, retreating into a well earned camp and northern lights, maybe we felt more alive and free than perhaps we were planning to.

An epic trip with @chrisburkard @joshreids @brodyleven and help from friends @hyperlite_mountain_gear @julboeyewearna @revelbikes @ibexwool taken in Kangerlussuaq by @chrismshane

Mountain Guides - Barometers of Change, created by POW Creative Alliance member Chris Shane, follows Angela into the Arctic, where her life’s work collides with a rapidly shifting planet. As a guide, she’s spent decades leading people into some of Earth’s most awe-inspiring places and witnesses the impacts of climate change with her own eyes

It was a privilege to join this project in post-production to help Angela bring her story to life. Under Chris’s excellent direction and collaboration, we shaped a compelling narrative together. Editing documentaries produced in such a wild, fast-paced environment presents unique challenges in post-production, but trusting the process and creating several iterations helped uncover the story we wanted to tell. Huge thanks to the entire crew and everyone who supported us throughout this process.

An insane adventure in an amazing place. I’ve never been somewhere so quiet. Thanks @chrisburkard @brodyleven and @chrismshane for an adventure to remember.

We rode from the coast to Greenland’s interior ice cap and back. All above the Arctic Circle.

The full video is now live. Go check it out over on YouTube. taken in Greenland by @chrismshane

“The hardest miles of my life,” mentioned @chrisburkard during a particularly hard section. No one disagreed.
With time, those miles will get easier in our memories. It’s already happening to me. Here is our reminder of not only the terribly slow travel across Greenland, but also how much we loved it.
In fact, it was the reason we were there.
