I’m honored to share I am a recipient of a Fulbright award for 2026-2027.

@the_fulbright_program is an international exchange program that funds select researcher proposals from a range of disciplines such as biology, economics, visual art, music, and history, to be carried out in another country.

This September I’m heading to Lecce, in the Puglia region of Italy, to research a grouping of neolithic cave drawings called Grotta dei Cervi (The Deer Cave). I will partner with the archeologist Maria Laura Leone, along with Dr. Pietro Iaia at the @unisalento.it to explore how visual language can be used as a cross-cultural communication tool.

The premise of my project is painting’s unique ability to hold somatic expression. A painting communicates through the languages of gesture, viscosity, color, and material, all of which exist outside of verbal communication. This empowers the medium with the potential to say things beyond national boundaries and foster connection across cultures.

In a time where boundaries are increasingly made visible, this work is only growing in importance. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to continue on this path with my partners in this work.

So much love goes out to the incredible community that supported me throughout this process:

@cranbrook_art : Judy, Ted, Martha, Willie, Chris, Elliott, Vanessa, & Kate.

In Detroit: Nik, Lee, Ashley, Burt, John, Kevin, Heather, Rachel, Amani, Evan, Dan, Martyna,

In Chicago: Karen, and my instructors at @saicpics : Susan Tallman, Irina Ruvinsky, Georgia Bokos, Stephen Farrell, Pala Townsend.

I wrote a piece linking the emergent possibilities of flow state to the musculature used in freestyle swimming. It pulls together legendary swim coach David Marsh, Audre Lorde, Ernst Bloch, Sara Ahmed, and Astrida Neimanis. Comments are open in the notion doc so check it out @ the link in bio and leave some thoughts.

"What would it look like if we used the catch as a model to bring in the wanting we've lost language for? Not a metaphor exactly, Astrida Neimanis would say I'm describing something closer to the literal condition of the body. In her hydrofeminism, the human body is not a sealed container but a body of water continuous with other bodies of water: rain bodies falling into reservoir bodies, reservoir bodies slaked into human bodies, human bodies eventually returned to soil and sea. Using her container, the catch isn't an image I'm importing into the body, it's a description of what the body is already doing every time it moves through anything in relation to it. I am not gripping the water. I am briefly indistinguishable from it." by @chrispinter_

Domestic spectacle of taste and memory.

What shifts is that the image asserts itself more aggressively. The carriage form, in its cropping, is archival. It has a graphic decisiveness. It moves from atmospheric to declarative.

Is this work about images dissolving into matter? Or is it about matter digesting images?

A male butterfly typically associated with transformation, fragility, and fleeting joy.
These caterpillars have a strong alliance with ants. They secrete sugary droplets that ants love, and in return the ants protect them from predators. It is an ancient, meadow-scale social contract.
