I often work in series, where the order and space between works are just as important as the pieces themselves. When working this way there's a tempo, that emerges, similar to music. I went through a few iterations of how this piece would be installed and decided on a single frame to house the 24 drawings. It reads as a map, a narrative, a landscape, a microscope, a telescope. A documentation of an event in multiple parts. The Shapes of Empathy (December 12), 2023 24 9x11 drawings, graphite on paper 30x95in framed #drawing #contemporaryart #chrispinter #graphite #abstraction

“Most pieces written on the work of Luc Tuymans approach his paintings from the conceptual. Treading in the land of images, how they function, his contribution to that epistemological body etc. This consistency amongst critics and scholars makes sense to me, especially in 2023 where very few people who write about artwork see it in person. But in the context of Luc T., his work in person sings an entirely different song...” Runner Magazine is so excited to bring to you BLUE CHIP: Luc Tuymans at David Zwirner, PUBLISHED TODAY! This piece is the first installment of the magazine's newest column called BLUE CHIP by Chris Pinter, who presents a short description of the column: “Compound Adj; An art gallery involved in the sales and circulation of highly commodified art work. It's a vague term, but colloquially it stands for one thing: wealth. Expensive work, expensive people, expensive support structures. To some it's the bane of the art world, to others it's the end game. Whatever your denomination we can all agree on their pervasiveness. For better or worse, or somewhere in between; they're here, and we should talk about it. This corner of runner magazine is dedicated to short-form reviews of work shown in these spaces. Stay tuned for periodical releases that cover: art world studs, hot takes, and gushy art lover talk.”
