👵🏻 Sharing Wisdom From My Caregiving Journey

Caring for my grandma changed my life.

There were times I thought I was falling behind, watching my peers do things I thought I should be doing. Looking back, I will never regret that time with my grandma. It taught me invaluable lessons and helped prepare me for a life I couldn’t yet see.

I wrote When Giving Gives Back with my cousin @almightymerz for anyone who feels caregiving has put their own life on hold. I hope it helps you see that caring for someone you love is not wasted time. Your care is honorable, and the lessons you gain may stay with you for life.

You can’t always change your circumstances, but you can change how you see and move through them.

The book comes out February 16, 2027, and preorders are open now.

Preordering helps bookstores see that readers want this resource and helps our publisher get it in front of more people. It also helps you be among the first to receive a copy when it releases.

If someone came to mind while reading this, I hope you’ll share it with them. I’m grateful for your support, and I hope this book is helpful to you.

I loved my grandma, but I struggled with everything I thought caregiving was taking from me. my time, my freedom, and the future I had imagined.

somewhere along the way, I realized I could still make the most of the life I had, even if it looked nothing like the one I planned.

those eight years were some of the most transformative years of my life.

that’s why me and my cousin @almightymerz wrote When Giving Gives Back.

for the 22-year-old version of myself who couldn’t see what I see now, and for anyone who might be on that same journey. by @chrispunsalan

me and @almightymerz used the word “just” around 300 times in our upcoming book. thankfully we caught all of them and changed it up lol.

I was reading through the comments on a recent post about how caregiving prepared me for marriage.

So many people said that because of the way I cared for my grandma, they know I’m going to be a great husband and father.

I’m grateful for that kind of encouragement.

But I have to be careful not to let that praise convince me that I’ve already arrived.

Caregiving taught me how to keep showing up for someone I love.

But learning those lessons and living them are two different things. by @chrispunsalan

I spent so much of my 20s thinking about the life I was missing because I was a caregiver.

I couldn’t see that caregiving was also giving me more time with my grandma than I probably ever would’ve had otherwise.

This clip was from the podcast “Genius Brain” hosted by @davidsocomedy.

when I was a caregiver, I spent so much time thinking about the life I would have when it was over.

I rarely stopped to think about who I was becoming because of it.

now that I’m married, I can see that some of the things I thought caregiving was taking from my life were preparing me for the life I have now. by @chrispunsalan

I’ve spent the last two years writing this book, and somehow finishing it might be harder than writing it.

If you gave me another three years to work on this book, I’d probably reach the end of those three years as a different person with new things I’d want to change.

At some point, I have to trust the person I was when we wrote it, trust the work we’ve done, and put the thing out. by @chrispunsalan
