AI is amazing. AI will change the human race. AI will, I hope, cure diseases and solve problems. But I will never, ever use AI to get ideas for my books or to write them, or to edit them or proofread them. Certainly never to replace incredible illustrators like @jameslancett. Why not? For the same reason that I don’t take a robot to the gym to lift the weights for me. I want to use my brain, I want to create. If I hand over my creativity to a machine, what if I couldn’t get it back? That’s my personal decision, maybe other authors feel differently. I don’t think AI is bad or wrong, I just think we need to be so careful about what we use it for. A couple of busy but lovely weeks on tour. We filmed a couple of secret things for later in the year - one of them while we were in Cheltenham was very very secret indeed and super exciting 🤫 by @chrissmithbooks

And then 50 years later, can George help the New Five rescue Santa? Plus activities, recipes… it’s a gift that keeps on giving and it’s out on Thursday ❤️ by @chrissmithbooks

Bestselling double act Greg James and Chris Smith do NOT use AI to write their books, but for their Bath show they used AI (Audience Intelligence) to generate an original story. And we had a lot of laughs along the way!
Their new book Secret Santa is inspired by their love of Christmas AND James Bond. It was so very nearly called For Your Mince Pies Only. . .

We loved hearing all about the dastardly penguins in the story and that Greg, although he’s a confident radio presenter, is actually scared of penguins in real life.

We are tired, we are happy, we may have had a little pint in Bath after a very busy week launching Secret Santa. We spoke to 700 kids on Tuesday, got 5 schools together on Thursday, had a super-fun event at @bathkidslitfest today and squeezed in amazing food and Stonehenge somewhere in between. We go again soon, but for now thanks and goodnight. 🫡 by @chrissmithbooks

Armed with exploding sprouts, smoke-grenade crackers and one very useful flying sleigh, can they complete the mission? 🛷 You'll have to read the book to find out!

Yesterday in Peterborough @greg_james and I chatted to more than 700 young readers - thanks to the @literacy_trust for having us. This live reading from The Twits Next Door always goes down well but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a reaction like this before! Let’s never forget that BOOKS will bring kids more delight than a screen ever can. Thanks in no small part to the genius illustrations of @emilybobdraws ❤️ taken in Cresset Theatre, Peterborough by @chrissmithbooks

Merry Christmas everyone! I made this little update of nice things because I was sitting in the bath feeling sorry for myself about missing Barney so much and needed a distraction.
