Through immersive cultural experiences, we foster creativity, community, and collective imagination, creating accessible, multi-media worlds that connect people to stories, to one another, and to new possibilities.Our first large-scale public arts experience is VENIA’s ‘Dear, Sincerely,’. Closing out the intense year of the Snake and reflecting on how to approach the Lunar New Year Fire Horse while feeling so vulnerable has been a great challenge. 2025 will forever be a year of ultimate highs and lows and finding out how to just stay afloat during the intense times. When 自由 (free) was first being conceptualized, more than just being a fashion editorial, I was sincerely wishing for a way to break past some of my own demons who had been screaming a little too loudly in 2025, and create from a newer, vulnerable place. 自由 is about the moment before starting something new. Specifically about the moment of suspension, and how that can feel incredibly overwhelming, horrifying, or incredibly exciting and exhilarating. So many people share about the forward moving momentum, the passion, the go-for-it energy…and I couldn’t help but be drawn to the small silence before the start of something new. Perhaps it’s a reflection of my own journey, but I both love and dread “starting”. In my own way, 自由 is a reminder to feel whatever needs to be felt before taking the next step, and to let go of any predisposed “supposed futures” that haven’t happened to make room for the realm of possibilities that will open up when that barrier is removed. “Free” has many different meanings in Mandarin Chinese, 自由 specifically means “free and unrestrained”— in body, mind and spirit. Tapping back into my own heritage, it even creating the title (and practicing the calligraphy) for this campaign was a journey that made me feel so vulnerable (I’ll get into that another time), and was so fulfilling to share. For me, this campaign stands for more than just an editorial and more than just a New Year post, but rather my deepest well wishes for everyone this year. I hope you enjoy the images, bts and blog as much as we had fun creating and conceptualizing it. Another year of the moments, the people, the places, the adventures and the choices. 2023 was in so many ways unexpected; tumultuous and yet healing. This was a year that pushed me past my limit, but also revealed new capabilities. I’m so blessed to have worked on incredible projects with talented visionaries and collaborators, have seen my family and spent quality time with them, opened deep conversations with friends old and new, and wandered far regions of the earth to explore spaces lesser known. Postulating the meaning of a cultured estranged. Visiting the National Palace Museum in Taiwan and facing the works of my peoples reminds me that the America I know is created of borrowed cultures. There’s a sense of disparity that gripped me while simultaneously igniting something in my artist soul. As an Asian American, there can at times be a sense of lost or misguided identity. But at the same time, I find myself enjoying the breadth of cultures that are also a part of me. It’s this duality that brings me to my senses and takes shape through art and narrative of a teetering identity. Returning to Taiwan did surface my love for Asian art, and the art of the brush and calligraphy. There’s something bittersweet about it, perhaps the permanence of ink of an impermanent paper reflecting on my feelings of my culture. My gosh, the time flies by. It’s already been a month since this precious evening. This trip around the sun has been incredibly intense, both in its joys and hardships. Looking back, I’m reminded again about the love that can cultivate in harsh places, that creativity can come with companionship, and that inspiration and the power to move forward is at times a hug, a push from behind or a birthday tune.
