Had the enormous privilege of attending and photographing a writers’ workshop and book signing last week with @christopher__rivas and @diverse.writers.club. One of several events around campus with Mr. Rivas. The speaker brought so much positive energy, inspiration and enthusiasm to the group of students. Thank you to ASU Gammage for working with the college on this project. taken in Mesa Community College by @christopher__rivas

They will not oppress our minds!

The Oppressors Best Tactic is to Oppress the Mind. Because they can not restrain everyone physically. They can’t make every Brown person disappear and they can’t secure every border, and they can’t keep everyone down. What they can do is sow enough chaos and fear that they oppress your mind. They oppress and infect your imagination. They get in their so that you start to believe you’re not capable, or you’re the problem, or you’re a threat, or you don’t deserve, don’t belong, aren’t enough. They try to make enough noise that they get the fear to live inside us. They suppress our imagination. But we know this, we know their tactics. And we thoroughly reject them. You will not my oppress my mind. by @christopher__rivas
