Appreciate all your unconditional love, lionhearted courage and support. All your patience with us three rowdy, scrappy kids and the same boundless love now for all the grandkids … not to mention all our friends growing up and all the different girlfriends & boyfriends we dated along the way.
Thank you for passing on all our Palestinian traditions, food and family history even with all our family spread all across the globe. Moving to the US from Central America was hard enough for you as young parents but having to do it , especially during the years when we arrived - added to its challenges. You never quit and instilled in us that determination to push through it all. Love you mom. Feliz día de las madres. أحبك أمي 💐💝 by @christopherbarake

Genoa: Art Beyond the Museum invites students to experience Italy through its museums, historic sites, collections, and vibrant cultural landscapes. Through immersive field experiences and collaboration with local cultural professionals, students develop skills in observation, research, critical analysis, and public interpretation. Guided by an ongoing Research Journal and culminating project, participants discover how art extends beyond museum walls and into the history, architecture, and everyday life of Genoa.
Genoa: Art Beyond the Museum is a 16-week course, with travel to Genoa, Italy taking place during the week of Spring Break March 1-7, 2027.

Looking forward to meeting you all in Genova! by @christopherbarake

We are happy to welcome @christopherbarake to The ANT Project’s residency.

Christopher Barake is a Miami-based independent curator, educator, and arts administrator. His practice explores how artists, curators, and institutions produce and exchange knowledge through dialogue and collaboration. He holds an MFA in Curatorial Practice, works in the Department of Art + Art History at Florida International University, and brings a longstanding engagement with contemporary art from Latin America and the Caribbean.

During his residency with The ANT Project, Barake is researching contemporary curatorial practice in Mexico through the networks and encounters that shape it. Using conversation as his primary method, he traces how practices are formed, transformed, and carried forward alongside local curators, artists, and cultural spaces. As a member of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art), he is developing this research in dialogue with the upcoming 2027 IKT Congress in Mexico City.

Opening Saturday August 15

@laundromatartspace + @nwsaschool Summer Residents Exhibition.

Grateful to for all of us to collaborate as local arts institutions ( LAS, NWSA, @fiuart ) and for the invitation to curate “Toward What Comes Next”, an exhibition featuring new work by Ignacio Beroiz @nachob.art , Noann Maia @no.wuanshould , and Jazz Rovira @jazz.sofia.r , developed during a summer residency at Laundromat Art Space.

Bringing together painting, drawing, installation, photography, printmaking, artist books, and site-responsive work, the exhibition reflects three distinct artistic practices in motion. Beginning from different points of departure—labor, identity, material experimentation, memory, and place—each artist embraces process as a form of inquiry, allowing meaning to emerge through acts of making.

As the artists prepare to enter their senior year at New World School of the Arts, Toward What Comes Next celebrates a summer of experimentation, dialogue, and discovery while looking toward the next chapter in each of their evolving practices.

This summer, three talented NWSA BFA students @nachob.art @no.wuanshould @jazz.sofia.r have been developing new work through an artist residency at @laundromatartspace, led by the incredible @ronald.sanchez__ . Supporting emerging artists through opportunities like these is an invaluable contribution to Miami’s creative community, and it’s a privilege to be collaborating with them as curator of the exhibition that will conclude their residency.

One of the most rewarding parts of this experience has been seeing our local arts community come together. As part of FIU Art, collaborating with our fellow Miami universities reminds me that we’re all part of one creative ecosystem, working toward the same goal: supporting and mentoring the next generation of artists.

This week’s studio visit brought together @fiuart , @nwsaschool , and the @umartgalleries with UM Gallery Director and Curator Milly Cardoso @seeartmiami joining us for thoughtful conversations with the residents. It was also a pleasure to spend the afternoon alongside fellow @ikt_curatorial members, whose perspectives enriched the dialogue even further.

Moments like these remind me that the strength of Miami’s art scene comes from collaboration, generosity, and a shared commitment to emerging artists.

Stay tuned for details about the Open Studio, exhibition reception, and artist talk—I can’t wait to share what these artists have been creating.

Painted in 1469 by Giovanni Mazone, the Polyptych of the Annunciation is one of the most extraordinary works hidden inside Genova’s historic churches and a key example of 15th-century.

The Archangel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, four saints and a frame of gilded Gothic woodwork, all in one painting, all in one room most tourists never enter.

Some spaces were built to make you feel small.
San Lorenzo Cathedral in Genova has been doing exactly that since the 12th century.

An FIU student guides you through its interior.
Turn the sound on and let it take you there.

"Let us come to Genoa, which you say you have never seen. You will see a royal city, leaning against a steep alpine hill, superb in her men and her walls, whose very appearance proclaims her the lady of the sea; yet her own power, as has happened to many cities, harms and damages her, for it feeds the disputes and jealousies of her citizens."
Petrarch wrote this passage in 1358 in his Itinerarium Syriacum, a travel guide written for his friend Giovanni Mandelli.
Part of the original latin reads: "Videbis ergo imperiosam urbem lapidosi collis in latere, virisque et menibus superbam, quam dominam maris aspectus ipse pronunciat."
