Genoa: Art Beyond the Museum invites students to experience Italy through its museums, historic sites, collections, and vibrant cultural landscapes. Through immersive field experiences and collaboration with local cultural professionals, students develop skills in observation, research, critical analysis, and public interpretation. Guided by an ongoing Research Journal and culminating project, participants discover how art extends beyond museum walls and into the history, architecture, and everyday life of Genoa.
Genoa: Art Beyond the Museum is a 16-week course, with travel to Genoa, Italy taking place during the week of Spring Break March 1-7, 2027.

Looking forward to meeting you all in Genova!

We are happy to welcome @christopherbarake to The ANT Project’s residency.

Christopher Barake is a Miami-based independent curator, educator, and arts administrator. His practice explores how artists, curators, and institutions produce and exchange knowledge through dialogue and collaboration. He holds an MFA in Curatorial Practice, works in the Department of Art + Art History at Florida International University, and brings a longstanding engagement with contemporary art from Latin America and the Caribbean.

During his residency with The ANT Project, Barake is researching contemporary curatorial practice in Mexico through the networks and encounters that shape it. Using conversation as his primary method, he traces how practices are formed, transformed, and carried forward alongside local curators, artists, and cultural spaces. As a member of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art), he is developing this research in dialogue with the upcoming 2027 IKT Congress in Mexico City.

Opening this Saturday, August 15! Toward What Comes Next is a Summer Residents Exhibition at Laundromat Art Space (@laundromatartspace), guest curated by Christopher Barake (@christopherbarake), Sr. Coordinator of Academic Support Services and Adjunct Faculty, FIU Art + Art History.

The exhibition features new work by Ignacio Beroiz (@nachob.art), Noann Maia (@no.wuanshould), and Jazz-Sofia Ramos-Izquierdo (@jazz.sofia.r), developed during a summer residency organized by New World School of the Arts (@nwsaschool) and Laundromat Art Space, with studio visits guided by Christopher throughout the program. Spanning painting, drawing, installation, photography, printmaking, artist books, and site-responsive work, the show traces three distinct practices moving through labor, identity, material experimentation, memory, and place.

As the artists head into their senior year at New World School of the Arts, the exhibition reflects a summer of experimentation and dialogue, and Christopher’s involvement brings an FIU connection into the fold.

and just like that, our month-long residency comes to an end. it’s our last day and all the memories are coming back together at once, so here’s me sharing some of them!

huge gratitude to:

- every artist, curator, and arts administrator who came to visit us and lent us their time and minds, connecting with us as artists but also as people,
- the artists @laundromatartspace, who welcomed us with open arms to their home,
- @christopherbarake for his generosity in engaging with our practices throughout the residency and curating our upcoming exhibition,
- to @lance_minto and @ogplascencia, for providing the conditions for this collaboration to happen at all,
- and @ronald.sanchez__, for opening up the doors of Laundromat Art Space to these three, in every way possible: coordinating studio visits, teaching us poker and destroying us in chess (almost got you!), exposing us to new spaces (including restaurants and fun little corners of Little Haiti) and driving us around, sharing his pool of knowledge, pushing us professionally and, last but most importantly, being a friend to us.

our three-person exhibition, “Toward What Comes Next,” opens this Saturday at 6pm at Laundromat Art Space 🤍
